Southend today

Thought it was time to see the sea again so we took ourselves off to Southend which strangely I saw mentioned on here today.
We had lunch in a fairly empty pub with a reduced menu but the food was good enough. We then proceeded to the seafront. Managed to park on The Esplanade, battled with the ticket machine, tried to book 2 hours but only got one. The traffic wardens we're about as we saw cars with tickets. There's a fair bit of building work going on, hopefully this isn't hotels for the new staycation brigade.
The tide was in but as usual went out very quickly exposing lots of lovely clear shiny jelly fish. The weather was gorgeous so we sat on a bench to make the most of the sunshine. Suddenly a Mercedes sport appeared and drove into the actual esplanade and the driver got out and started taking photos like he was in Casino Square in Monaco. He actually moved the car a couple of times for better camera shots. He really was old enough to know better. He then drove off sounding like my exhaust used to back when I really drove old bangers. People laughed.

Once our hour was up we decided to come home, I know Southend isn't a real holiday destination but it certainly reinforced my views.

Hi Sue, I have friends live in Shoeburyness, I too don't mind a weekend at theirs and a walk along Southend pier, but no longer as it's not really our cuppa for a week or so. My pal walks their dogs for miles around the area and would see a woman/couple walking their dogs, one of them in a pushchair, she didn't like to ask why

Lived in Southend most of my life, and I'm not a fan of the seafront tbh.

During the summer it's the worst. Rubbish everywhere and trouble guaranteed after the tourists can't handle the alcohol.

Avoid it if I can.

What are they building all along by where Neverland was please?
My in laws used to live in Thorpe Bay so we spent a lot of time there when the kids were young. We actually had a beach hut there. Lovely little high street, like something from the 1950s.

I know some overpriced flats are nearly finished where a pub used to be just up from there.

Yes Thorpe bay is a nice area. Also quite expensive!

We live in Westcliff Sue
So near Southend, it’s a bit tacky only love it when Grandson stays as there is so much for him 🙊😎
I much prefer Ramsgate where they live 🤩

I’m in the north east and prior to “you know what” I used to travel to southend twice a month for work, staying for a couple of nights. I was there the week before lockdown and never imagined I would not be back, not for a long time anyway if I ever do. I miss Southend! 🙄

We went to Frinton on Saturday with DH63, DD22, DSD37 & DGD7.
We decided it would just be a bit quieter than other seaside resorts.

Lovely beach, not crowded by any means & we felt safe.
Took food/drink as the shops are a 10 min walk away.
No amusements just a nice bit of seaside relaxation & fun.

Left mid afternoon around 4 & thought we might have an hour in Clacton in the fair for DGD7.
Well as we drove along the front by the fair there was a very long line of about 25 people to the ticket booth and as we drove further & saw the entrance area to the pier & beach it was like sardines! Bad enough in normal times but with Covid even though it was outside it was madness.
We carried on driving & went home!
