Mobile TV warnings - what impact?

I’ve just sat down with a cuppa and thought it would be nice to sit and watch a film as dd is late home from school today so I have a couple of hours to myself.

Browsing the Sky movies offerings I’ve spotted the following:

This film has outdated attitudes, language and cultural depictions which may cause offence today.

The film is Flash Gordon - which I vaguely remember being absolutely rubbish. But……the warning makes me want to watch 😂

Think I’m about to lose some time I’ll later regret!

Anyways, I’m just wondering, is there really a need for these kind of warnings. Surely the fact that the film is from 1980 tells you that might be the case.

Or are we now at the point where people will assume anything from the past is based on today’s standards unless told otherwise 🤷

How dare you. Brian Blessed bellowing the immortal line “GORDON’S ALIVE!” makes it worth watching on its own.

Classic camp 80’s film

Some of the best music in a film as well.

One of my favourite films!

I recall that the reason for the warning is simply that the baddie, Ming the Merciless, is played by a European actor but portrayed as Chinese.

Loved this film as a kid. Don’t think that’ll ever change, no matter how cheesy it is. Peter Duncan from Blue Peter just made it better even better. It was almost like there was an actual film star on our tv talking to us kids.

Warnings are issued to cover the originators rear end.
