I think that if care home staff didn’t in certain places treat the residents like cr#p there wouldn’t be any need for cameras, but until then, good on the manager

Im guessing as they’ve been taken down she realised or was told that what she was doing was illegal, hence she’s now seeking to get them put up legally. Probably best to get some calm members of staff to sit down and talk to her and express how it made staff feel and her reasons for having cameras.

Its not clear if they have been recording or not from the above. I read it as they have been installed and then afterwards staff have been told they have been installed but not recording?
If it is the above case, I cannot see how any laws have been broken. I personally would be annoyed that someone said they where something else, was it the actual company who said this or the hired workmen installing them. If the latter then it would be hard to prove they where told to tell any staff this info.

They have been recording and now they are not since staff got wise to it. The excuse for using the cameras was to try and catch nightstaff sleeping. They aren't.
We don't have a problem with the cameras, as I said, its the deceit and lies and the manager only then informed us because we realised among ourselves what they were. There are no signs around and no residents or relatives have been informed either.

the fact that the camera are there is actually covered by GDPR.
When the cameras are installed, a written document needs to be created which documents the type, make, model of the camera, why the cameras are installed, what it can record, who has access to the recorded data, where the recorded data is stored and how long the recorded data is stored. When cameras are installed , by law there needs to be specific signs which tell people they are being filmed. When cameras are installed, people by law have the right to access any data of themselves. When cameras are installed people by law have the right for any data recorded of them to be deleted. I know all this and alot more about GDPR because I have written GDPR Privacy Policys and GDPR documents for my job. It makes no difference if the camera didn't record anything, the fact that they were installed without the correct procedures being followed is a breach of GDPR and therefore the company can be prosecuted if they are reported to the Data Protection Commissioner ico.uk/ |

Or you could just report this to the ICO without taking legal advice. However, what do you want to gain? A fine of 10% of turnover may result in job losses? if it were me I’d rather have a conversation with the manager about the need for trust and a guarantee that footage had been destroyed.

I think cameras where workplaces have vulnerable people are a positive. It protects the staff from false accusations as well as protecting people being harmed. It also provides reassurance for friends and family. They should be welcomed although it looks like proper procedure wasn't followed . I'd be concerned about a place where the staff objected. |

Just a thought- maybe the police were involved and the owner is keeping quiet about it. It is a possibility.
