Place you picked the car up from:- MCO
Catergory of car hired:- 4x4 Full Size SUV Make of car you got:- GMC Acadia AWD Hire car company used:- Budget Picking up the car was a nightmare! Took ages, the car wasn't thoroughly cleaned when we got it, just wanted the car though to get on our way. The car was nice, all electric, windows, tailgate etc. Bit of a gas gussler though $50 in 5 days

We hired through Alamo this year (Nov 16th - December 7th), and were due to get a Dodge Durango, but ended up with a GMC Acadia. It was the best car I've had so far (had 12) - an 8 seater crossover (front wheel drive) with a 3.6 V6 of 288bhp with 6 speed auto. It was surprisingly well built, drove very quietly with plenty of go. As usual, there was little luggage room with the third row up, but otherwise pretty spacious (only 3 of us).
The Alamo experience was first class, with no sales pitch at all. gmc/acadia/acadia/index.jsp Some pics:

We've stayed at Cane Island from November 27th until December 11th 2009
After a week our brandnew 2010 Ford Escape was getting problems with the front suspension so we've exchanged it at Alamo MCO for a 2010 Chevvy Equinox. ( for pics of Chevvy Equinox see other posting #171 of today ) Ford Escape : Edited at 11:32 PM. Reason: Always forgetting something ;-) |

Just the 2 of us Nov 27th - Dec 5th 2009, so hired the cheapest we could find at Orlando International airport, from Budget £118 for the 9days.
It was a Chevrolet Cobalt, a 2 litre i think so quite small for the US car market anyway it only had 300 miles on the clock so was as new. drove quite slowly out of the airport (waiting for the sat nav to click in as usual lol) it seemed ok , few buttons on the steering wheel to fiddle with , cruise control worked well , stereo was already tuned into some half decent stations. anyway on the highway , we started getting about 10mpg when pulling away , then this went up to 30-40 mpg whilst driving normally. so quite fuel efficent we thought. no problems the whole week , on the return trip to the airport we filled up to the brim , expecting a quite large charge from budget at their overpriced fuel , we travelled via a few shopping malls on the way back so probablt did about 50 miles from when last filling up. on the way back used the cruise control to save fuel and it was saying that we were getting an amazing 70 miles to the gallon. didnt belive it but when we saw the receipt from budget when we landed we were not charged a cent. i think it was a strange sort of fuel efficient car , it seemded to only use 2 or 3 cylinders (if it was a 4 cylinder car) when it was cruising so i would imagine that would allow for the extra milage on the return trip, you could almost hear the change in engine noise. anyway cannot fault it , boot plenty big enough for 2-3 average sized suitcases , back seat there for any extras , we only wanted a small cheapo car but seemed to end up with an almost luxury mota Marcus Edited at 10:30 PM. |

Place you picked the car up from: MCO - Feb 2008
Category of car hired: Full size (7st) SUV Make of car you got: GMC Acadia SLT (free upgrade) Hire car company used: Alamo We had a bit of hassle at the desk with a job's-worth not wanting to give us the car we booked. When we sorted it out and went down to the garage we were handed the GMC Acadia. It was the dog's nadgers! Not as much space for luggage as the mini-vans we normally hire but plenty of room for five of us. Turned a few heads too in car parks, especially when I started it remotely upon approaching it! The story of how we got it... Regards,
