Return to Vegas: The Experience - Day 8 - Last Day panic sightseeing & food overload

Wednesday19th April

Today’s Objectives:

1. Luxor
2. King Tut’s Tomb
3. New York New York

Outcomes:

1. Achieved at rocket pace
2. Didn’t do when we saw it cost $9.99 each!
3. Achieved with Roller Coaster
4. Visit to Stratosphere
5. Visit to largest souvenir shop
6. Pool Time
7. Buffet at Harrah’s

A lazy start meant that we didn’t hit Java Coast patio until after 9 when the line was pretty horrendous – but we did manage to get a table outside.

Decided to use our last Monorail ticket on a trip to Sahara where we could cross over the road and visit the largest souvenir shop, as well as me going up the Stratosphere tower. Shopping done, under the strictest gaze of some fiercesome security guards, we headed in the Stratosphere. The security check line for the tower ressembled Splash Mountain in August, so I gave it a miss!

From here we bought a two-ticket ride and rode the Monorail from Sahara right down to MGM, forgetting to time it in our excitement! Across the walkway to New York New York we stopped for a coffee before heading up to the roller coaster - $12.50 per head (50c for the locker) and I forgot I had a BOGOF coupon! No lines here – we were straight on and off – nothing like Krakken really but quite a bumpy ride – TC was NOT a happy bunny but I kept my eyes open all the way round! TC was too wobbly when it finished to even think about shopping in the Exit shop!

Walked across to Excalibur and caught the tram to Mandalay Bay. If you want to go to Luxor you have to go to Mandalay Bay and get the slow tram back to Luxor. We had studied Luxor earlier on Friday so had another taz around before finding the tomb – realising that we would have to pay, we didn’t bother. Left TC playing in the casino, whilst I went back for a final swim – water being still bracing despite the fact that it was really hot now. The wind was still pesky so no chance of an Eiffel Tower trip!

On the way back up to the room, I stopped at one of the PC terminal dotted around the foyer to check in online – Virgin site wouldn’t let me do it, so I tried on a PC in the UPS shop with no joy either.

Showered and went down the strip to Harrah’s as TC fancied a buffet before going home. There was already a line here despite it only being 6.15 pm! Eventually we were seated (having used a coupon that we had been given on check in). What an array of food! How I didn’t go pop, I don’t know.

From here we had to walk around for about an hour just to feel comfortable and ended up watching two fountain shows – the second featured Elvis’ Viva Las Vegas and as we felt this couldn’t be topped, ambled into Bally’s for a Penny slot or two. On the was back through the Flamingo, we tried online checkin again and were successful (at the desk the next day someone was complaining and was told that the system had problems at the moment), so went off for another play with accompanying drink. Taking a final bottle upstairs, we headed up to pack – mainly unsuccessfully as I was too busy staring out of the window!

Another great day, pity about going up the tower, we went up at night and watched the fountains at the Bellagio, well worth it
