Helen and Gary's Tour of Chicago, Vegas and LA - Day Four
This was our last morning in Chicago and again we started the day by going to Cambridge House, they actually greeted us as if we had been going there forever which was very nice, we decided to have eggs, bacon and home fries.
We then headed back to the hotel to do the packing which was not an easy feat due to all the things I had bought, and Gary decided to start giving me a sermon on not buying everything I see as we still had another 10 days to go and if I carried on at this rate we would need six extra suitcases! We eventually managed to pack everything and headed downstairs to check out. We had really enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Chicago City Centre and will definitely visit again in the future. We got a taxi from outside the hotel and then it was off to the airport, this is when the fun started. When we got to the United check-in the lines were just horrendous, and they were really disorganised. We waited in line about 25 minutes and were really worried that we would be missing our flight to Vegas. When we go to check-in we were asked all of the usual questions and then asked to put the suitcases on the scales, both of mine were overweight they weight 64 and 67 lbs respectively, she said that I would have to pay an extra $75 for each case before they could accept it for travel, until she realised that we had come in from international flights and she said something about this being ok – me then looking smugly at Gary. We then had to take the suitcases for checking and had to have all the combination locks undone so that they could be searched, and they did search them all. We then went through security and had to take off jackets, coats, shoes and belts we were then body searched when we went through the scanner thingy, this really did take up a lot of time. So anyone who will be travelling on domestic flights in the US as they are being very strict. We then went to the gate and only had about a 15 minute wait, the flight took off on time so it was now four hours to Vegas. They came around with drinks and then snacks and I won’t even describe what we got as it was disgusting, that’s when the cheesecake came in handy. The film on the flight was Hollywood Homicide and it was ok to pass the time. It was really good when we were coming into land at Vegas as you could see all the strip hotels and the whole plane seemed to get really excited. We were staying at the MGM Grand for the first of our three nights and they have room check-in at the airport so whilst we were waiting for our luggage we checked into the hotel and then we picked up the suitcases and it was a 5 minute trip to the hotel. We were on the 17th floor and the corridor to our room was one of the longest I have ever seen in my life it took us about 10 minutes to get to our room. The room was great and the view was of the Monte Carlo hotel. We decided to have a quick shower and get changed and then go out for something to eat (something else we like to do apart from shopping) we had been given a voucher when we checked in for a 2 for 1 at the MGM Grand Buffet so decided to try this out. The line was quite long, but you expect that in Vegas and we waited about 20 mins. It wasn’t one of the best buffets we had had in Vegas but it was ok. We decided to go for a bit of a walk and gamble after dinner so headed out onto the Strip and it really is an amazing site, we had not been for six years and so much seemed to have changed, we suddenly didn’t feel tired any more. We walked from the MGM, which is on the corner of the Trip with Tropicana Boulevard and went towards the Aladdin which was not there on our last trip, we went inside and had a look around some of the shops and then hit the casino (another passion of mine). We found a couple of Game King slots which have Blackjack on and put in $10 each and we sat there quite happily for about an hour losing our money and getting free Buds. After this we got a cab back to our hotel and decided to do some real gambling and went to the Blackjack tables, it must have been my lucky night as I ended up wining $120 so I was very pleased with myself. We then went back to our room exhausted but happy, me thinking what I could buy with my winnings! |

Typically, we had the last room on our floor. Heather |

I'd love to go to Las Vegas! One of these days (once we've got rid of the kids! LOL)
