What do you mean by "wall panel"? Is this in a shower or do you mean plasterboard wall?

I believe they are glued on. removing it will likely be a pain and may need replastered afterwards. I have never taken one off, but my guess is that if "ripping" it from the wall breaking the glue doesn't work, it will need the plaster chipping off.
Heat from a. hairdryer might help soften the glue.

Are there any disadvantages to panels then, as we are about to remove our tiles to put up panels instead!

We looked at them 2 years ago and decides against them.
Too flexible if you knock something against them and maybe puncturing them. And we just thought they looked "cheap".
Personally, I would be going for tile. But maybe the products have improved in the last couple of years.

Ours look as good as they did 4 years ago when we put them up. I use a squeegee on them after showers and viakal every so often, ours are in an L shape down the side and back of the bath, we have dark tiles at the tap end and above the sink just for contrast. I wouldn’t want a whole bathroom doing with them but then I don’t like fully tiled bathrooms either.
