I second the pint about calling his name! Also when the vets call you -they usually use the cats name not yours!
If it's a charity they should chip him - when he goes out think about a flap that reads his chip - we have the Sureflap Pet Door and you can set times - mine is set to 7.00pm to lock - if any of my 5 are still out it will let them in but not back out!
I love black cats -3 of my 5 are black! He is gorgeous!

Like others have said

Chip, neuter, insurance and if getting a collar, make sure it’s a break away one. Also handle lots by examining feet, mouth and belly etc so they get use to it, so making giving meds easier (hopefully) 😄

Our daughter and her partner Ollie have just got a tabby kitten. He’s an indoor cat and is called Dave.

He’s beautiful! Thank you for getting a black cat- they tend to be overlooked and our local shelters are sadly full of them I have two gorgeous “house panthers”, Rocket, a seven year old girl, and her half-brother Captain, who is six. Both Marvel inspired names I’ll see if I can post some pictures...

Here is Captain in his Toy Story Alien bed from Primark!

And here is Rocket eyeballing him from a sunny spot ♥️
I hope you and your kitten have a wonderful time together, whatever you decide to name them. For the record, I vote Loki!

We sort of have a plan for some quiet space for him. It’s not very big but that’s probably best whilst he gets used to us. Also definitely going to try to get him to stay in at night after he’s old enough to go out - black cats, night and cars on the roads scare me so I’d feel better knowing where he is.

Husband lifelong QPR fan so I have suggested Sir Les (Ferdinand), Stanley (Bowles), Kevin (Gallen) or Eze (although he would probably move on if we called the cat that!) might wait and see what he looks like properly before settling on a name for life.

Also, like the bell suggestion. Was going to get one anyway to help scare the mice away! But it’s a good suggestion so we can find him when he’s little.

Honestly the biggest thing I am worried about is our furniture and carpets getting scratched to bits - DH will never forgive me if the cat does that!

Was thinking we could also take him upstairs into a room a night to sleep in so we know where he is (a bit contained), safe and away from the furniture and also concerned he’ll set the house alarm off at night so we might need to change our sensors.
So gorgeous! Just wanted to say that you don’t have to let him out. Our 3 are indoor cats and I can’t imagine now having them outside. Years ago I always let my cats out, but we didn’t want to this time and I have to say I don’t know how I ever did it before!

down our street our neighbours have had kittens and cats run over, even though we live in a cul de sac in a village. It’s up to each owner to do what they think is best but just wanted to say that cats can be very happy inside 😊

I would call him Snowball.

It is better that you don’t get him any sooner than currently planned, ideally they should be twelve weeks old to be well socialised and toilet trained by mother.

I am a lifelong cat owner, I have never had a collar on any cat as I would be terrified of them getting caught up with it, if you decide to get one please ensure it is a safe breakaway one as somebody mentioned. I have never heard of a kitten going missing in the house before and cannot even imagine it so if that were the main reason for a collar I would go without.

Thanks for all the advice and sharing cat photos - they’re gorgeous. I honestly wouldn’t have picked a black one but fell in love when I saw him so done deal. Also, they’re lucky right?

New name on the table. As life long QPR fan the mascot is a black cat called Jude so we’re thinking about calling him Jude (the cat).
