Eggs, would you eat them?

Have just noticed that the eggs have a best by 20/5/20, I would happily use them even if it was just to hard boil them, DH says no way. What would you do?

Yes. You can tell if an egg Is off as soon as you crack it.

You can also test it in a bowl of water. Avoid floating eggs.

I eat eggs about a month out of date! The BB dates on eggs are ridiculous. You will know if an egg is edible or not! I am super cautious about food but eggs are one thing I’m very relaxed about.

I would use them - when you crack the egg you will know if it is rotten!

Yes I would do the test mentioned above but to be honest if it’s just a couple of days I’m not sure I would even do that. We get our eggs from a farm locally so they don’t have best before dates.

As a child, I used to collect birds eggs (now a poacher turned gamekeeper).

If it sinks in water, then it is fine and I would suck the contents out as there was less risk of damaging the egg. If it floats, then it would be blown!

I always do the water bowl test, I’ve had eggs a month out of date that have been ok. I have no sense of smell so I don’t want to risk cooking with rotten eggs.😀

You’ll know if it’s rotten. I never look at the date on eggs.

Always use the float test. Have used eggs that are over a week over there use by date. As long as they DO NOT float.

Sometimes I get farm eggs, not from the supermarket which don’t have dates on. The water test is particularly good for them.
