Celebrating Retirement Tour October 2019 - Days 11/12 - 13/14 Oct - Mono Lake, Tioga Pass, Yosemite
Sunday 13 October
Comfort Inn Lone Pine turned out to be a decent hotel, clean, comfortable, adequate breakfast. 👍 Next stop on the itinerary was Yosemite via Tioga Pass. Set off for Yosemite with a stop off at Mono Lake to stretch our legs. It was so still and peaceful. Then it was on to the Tioga Pass, another long drive but stunning scenery. As it was still reasonably early we headed for Yosemite Valley and once again wow. Parked up after many photo stops fairly easily and had a bit of a walk round then headed for Yosemite View Lodge, our home for the next two nights. We had been upgraded to a river view room which was really large, with two enormous beds and a mini kitchen area. Our neighbours seemed to like crashing and banging around, at one point we actually thought he was building some IKEA furniture 🙄 Thankfully they did quieten down early so in the end we got a decent night's sleep. At one point we were considering ditching our second day in Yosemite and moving on but so glad we didn't. Got a pizza from the hotel and crashed out. Monday 14 October No breakfast included, and the hotel shop was rubbish - bread but no butter, cereal but no milk 🙄 so we headed off early to park up and get something to eat in the park. Highway 140 was closed just past our hotel due to the brush fires so the road into the park was really quiet and we were soon parked up and in Dengans Deli for a breakfast muffin and cup of coffee. From there we caught the shuttle bus to Sentinal Bridge and walked to Swinging Bridge along the side of the Merced River. It was a lovely walk and again stunning views. We then got the shuttle to the Information Centre and had a walk round the Indian Village and museum, both really interesting. Walked back to Dengans Deli to pick up some Corona - $1.49 per bottle, cheaper than bottles of water 😁 Lastly we drove up to Glacier Point. OMG, I've never been so scared on a car journey - sheer drops on the passenger side 😳 Again absolutely stunning views. Another pizza at the hotel as the only other choice was a really expensive restaurant, didn't mind really though as the pizzas were very good 👍 Crashed out again, let's hope Bob the Builder is a bit quieter tonight 🤞 Off to Napa Valley tomorrow.
