Hi all - I’m back again asking stupid questions about air miles and cards.
I’ve got the Amex gold card and DH has the free MBNA MasterCard. I stupidly forgot to cancel in December so was charged the annual fee ( started new job and both had flu). Anyway I will keep it now and refer DH in Oct and cancel November before next charge.
Is the virgin MBNA card still free - can we just keep that going?
We currently have around 250k miles between us - we should get more from flights this summer (5x flights - kids have own accounts).
We then want to use them towards flights next summer to Antigua if we can. What do I need to do? I know it’s out of season for Antigua so we might have a chance to get some flights. What should my plan of action be?
Thanks all x

I think you are confused about the Virgin Card.
MBNA ditched all the airline loyalty accounts ages ago.
Virgin Money took up the slack and issued their own cards. Is that what he has?

Yes correct - I have no idea why but the credit card and air miles confuse the hell out of me! I’m normally a fairly savvy person but just can’t seem to compute with this 😂

Not to worry it can get all confusing if the Miles are coming from different sources.

I would just carry on as you are now, collect ruthlessly via the Cards you have and maybe consider doing a Miles Booster next time they have a sale on as that’s pretty good value.

When you say next Summer I assume you mean 2021?

If so I would be on Virgin regularly checking the Miles seats availability for this year for your destination to get a picture of what’s there. Now it may not be the same next year but it’s a good starter for ten.

There’s a mile booster on at the moment for flights booked or taken in last 6 months. 40 per cent bonus if buying 3 times flight.

The best way to check for mileage redemption on VS (& indeed BA) is via a website called seatspy . You can track availability for your dates and set up an hourly check for alerts as seats can be added at any time (but in my experience around 2am) and get snapped up quickly
