Mobile Kefalonia

Thinking of going to kefalonia late May for a week. As it's the start of the season, which resort would be best? We like exploring/walking, eating out and sitting in a bar watching the world go by 😁

I went last year and stayed in Skala, lovely resort, nice restaurants friendly people. The main beach is stoney so you need water shoes, there is a service on the beach where you order food and they bring it to you. It was lovely we had a massive pizza and hot dogs and drinks, theres also a nice sandy beach around the corner but not many facilities. We went on a boat trip to Fiskardo and went to the caves, the caves although pretty you are in and out in a few minutes. I wouldn’t bother to do them, the sea is warm andclear, my kids snorkelled over the rocks and saw loads of fish. We went to the famous Myrtos beach which was beautiful, driving around the island there is lots of beautiful scenery. We saw a goat in a tree! We are definitely going back in a few years

Thanks Sandra. What time of year did you go? Just a bit concerned it may be too quiet at the start of the season.

We went on the 25th August and it was lovely, there are lots of stray cats and dogs in Kefalonia but they are looked after by the hotels and Kefalonia animal trust. We didnt mind them and fed them when we could, actually made my kids (grown up) holiday better!

I love Kefalonia and have been a number of times.

Although I like Skala and Lourdata and fiskardo, I would suggest Lassi at that time of year overall.

I have been for the whitsun break a few years ago with my mum. Weather was warmish. Very quiet all round, but definitely the start of the season. Don't think I would recommend it much earlier than that. Pools will be cold and sea will be bracing but it is a lovely island with lost of exploring options for a week. Very different experience to our normal school summer holiday trips.

The reason I suggest Lassi is partly that it is relatively close to the airport for ease of transfers but mainly because it is close to argostolion. Can walk there but just as easy to hop on bus / taxi for a few euros 5 mins ride or so. Argostolion is the capital so not as seasonal and reliant on tourists so is generally busier on out of season / shoulder season.

It is quite steep in places so don't know how you do with hills. If prefer flat aim for ones closer to the main road through Lassi, or between the main road and the sea. If you go too far up the hill between Lassi and argostoli and it can be quite steep indeed.

The closeness to argostoli makes it easy to get on one of the island buses. Or alternatively hire a car. Max speed is v low on island and very easy driving for exploring.
