DVC or WDW Direct?

We are looking at our first WDW without our DD in 3 years' time as she will be at uni - never too early to plan though right

I have always wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian after only having visited before and now we only have to pay for the 2 of us it is in our budget.

Last year we stayed at a villa and rented points for a 2 night stay at the Boardwalk Inn Villas from Dave's Vacation Villas. We had no problems and the booking was on MDE the same day we paid the balance.

I was looking at the prices for next year with DVV against Walt Disney World Travel direct and there is about £2000 difference for the 2 weeks. This is based on the room discount at the moment but will be £450 less if there is free dining (room discount is £1150 and ddp is £1600, and paying for the DDP with the DVC booking and adding on tickets etc.

£2000 is a big difference and there are a couple of things I think that are not included in a DVC booking such as the $200 gift card but I have not included that in the figures.

I would prefer a hotel room rather than DCV villa but could live with it and prefer the safety of booking direct plus we can just pay a deposit whereas with DVV we have to pay the whole amount upfront for the accommodation.

Do you still get to use the Disney Express from the airport with DVC bookings?

Can anyone think of any differences which would warrant paying more direct with WDW? If it was a couple of hundred pounds it wouldn't bother me but £2000 does!

The only difference will be free dining, any gift cards and studio vs hotel room. If your price difference includes DDP for both options it’s a no brainer for me, I’d go with whichever is cheapest.

Just to add, does either price take tickets into account?

Yep, you still get to use ME.

Before we bought in, renting DVC was always the way for us - especially loved the villas at GF over the hotel side, the penguins in the lobby 🖤 but being in an out building doesn’t bother us, you might feel differently about that?

We like the way we can add on the dining plan to suit us, without having to buy tickets through WDW. We sometimes do split stays to take advantage of different dining plans so have a mix of DxDDP and QSDP depending on our plans. We’ve been lucky that we haven’t had to change rooms with a split stay either x

It takes into account everything - I thought I was originally missing something because there is such a big difference but I have checked my figures.

My only concern is if there are not enough points from 1 person for a full 2 week stay. But then we could do a split stay and book 2 separate dining plans. Or rent from 2 separate people .

I think you can end up in an out building anyway can't you for a hotel booking or are they different. Out building sounds like an old shed! I would prefer to be in the main building but wouldn't pay much extra for it - not £2k anyway.

Now you have got me considering DxDDP!

I don't understand your explanation of the numbers at all and I have read it a few times now , but if one appears much cheaper to you then do that.

I would have thought a studio would be better than a hotel room when there are two of you due to the sofa and the kitchenette.

I am a DVC owner so probably biased but it would be DVC all the way for me.

I’m not sure re outbuildings as it doesn’t bother us so we’ve never really paid much attention to location but the DVC villas at GF have a separate lobby and check in area. We still used the main lobby for check in though!

Oooh DxDDP is our favourite. We only really do it for a few days as it’s a lot of food but my husband isn’t one for desserts so he really loves the included appetiser. I think it makes signatures much better value...I’m not sure I’d go to a signature on the standard plan x

The DVC villas at Grand Floridian are much nicer than the hotel rooms- why would you want a hotel room? I also would not pay for dining plan either- simply is not worth it- hardly any DVC owners buy it- just put that money in an account and you will likely come home with quite a bit left, generally eating what you want.
Out Building like a shed? Have you seen it? Has one of the most luxurious lobbies of any Disney hotel- smaller of course. The DVC villas are very nice here.
It is a no brainer for me- rent the DVC and do not pay for the dining plan.

Watch this- the building is adjacent to the main building under a covered walkway-

I would personally go for the DVC Grand Villa
