Coronavirus and planning...

I know there is a thread on this in the general chat section and I hope the mods do not move this as I want to talk about the issue in relation to those due to fly out in the next month or two and how if at all, it is going to affect us.

I am flying in early April and am becoming increasingly worried with what appears to be the playing down of the seriousness of this in relation to both the rate of infection and subsequently rate of fatality. Also it seems the UK is one of the only countries to not have any preventative measures in place.

Because of this I haven't even booked any accomodation for April as I'm waiting to see what happens, but it really doesn't look good at the moment. Am I worrying too much and does anybody else have similar fears with their upcoming trip?

We go in May and no I dont currently have any fears and certainly not overly worried about it.

Things might change if it becomes a major pandemic but at the minute the only flight restrictions are for those who have travelled to/from China in last couple of weeks.

If they are playing it down and yes I agree that it seems they are then we will all be at risk no matter where we are.

I am sitting here in bed in Quebec, having woken up this morning with a stinking cold ! (Its -24 today) We are due to fly home on Tuesday & I am now wondering if I still have this cold & a temperature am I going to be isolated for fear I have Corona! It dawned on me that no one as far as I know has actually said what the symptoms are, apart from not feeling well! I am feeling like crap but know I have a cold ! So can anyone tell me if there is any definitive symptom we should all actually be looking out for or are we all being brainwashed into thinking a slight sniffle = Corona!

I don't visit the parks that often but we are meant to be getting Universal annual passes this year as we are due to go a few times so now I'm even worrying about going to the parks.

Will have to see how it plays out in relation to any future airport closures etc

Anecdotally there were some dudes in hazmat suits entering the Chinese Quarter in Birmingham today which has probably increased my fear somewhat as it's a bit too close to home.

This is pretty much my view as well.

Symptoms are very similar to flu/bad cold, sniffles, fever, coughing, difficulty breathing. Though if you haven't been to china or in contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with coronavirus you're unlikly to be quarantined.

re: the death rate, you forget that china is still a 2nd world country & health care access for many of their population is not what we have access to. "Normal" flu can kill thousands of people per year in the UK but we don't have the same fear that coronavirus is currently generating. It's something that is going to be an issue for many more months, mainly because for many it is a mild illness, so I don't think we can really stop all our forward planning unless the situation changes & we are advised against leaving this country. We are flying within europe this half-term & am always aware that we may be exposed to more germs during the flight but the best you can do is take good hygiene precautions & have adequate travel insurance in place.
