Ryan air bags

Totally confused even after spending a ridiculous amount of time looking at their website on baggage allowance.

DS is going to Germany with his mates and he hasn't bought baggage so is taking a back pack. He is also going to Uganda with his school on a charity trip taking some 6th formers. He is a chemistry teacher. He has to take mimimum of 4 days clothes plus towel and toiletries malaria tablets and water bottle in carry on in case checked bags go missing which they have before. Just seem a back pack in millets in the sale but its 4cm too big one way. Would they care about this if its a back pack?

I doubt they'll be worried about that. I think they've mentioned that the bag cages they use to check sizes are slightly bigger than the allowance anyway.

Ryanair can be very complicated and the bag must fit underneath the seat

Just as an aside, has he made sure he bought the ticket that includes baggage? Ryanair do sell tickets that don't include any baggage whatsoever! Just a thought. I've had friends that have been stung with extra charges at the airport as they have not had any baggage allowance at all.

I've flown with Ryanair numerous times and they've never checked my small hand luggage case size but, to be fair, it's the right cabin bag size. I've never seen anyone have their bag checked and I'd hazard a guess that if it's only a couple of cm's bigger and it can be squashed into the sizing checker then he'd be fine.

If i understand the website which could be debatable he can take one bag only of 40 x 25 x 20. This back pack is 45 instead of 40. The rest is fine.

If he has priority boarding he can take two bags on board, one "cabin bag" which could be a suitable sized backpack plus a smaller bag too (I had a small cath kidston backpack as my smaller bag). We've just got back from Rome and flew ryanair, they were not being too precious over sizes as long as things fit in the overhead baggage lockers.

I would assume that as it is a soft bag it will squash into the sizer if needed and therefore squash under the seat.
As long as when packed it has some give it should be fine but you never know with them.

Hard cases are a different matter as they cant be squashed and therefore limit the number of cases in the overhead bins.

It is soft but has a back board in it so it keeps its shape against your back
