I used Retainer Brite to clean them - they soaked in it while I had my breakfast, followed by a gentle scrub with a soft brush. I bought the first lot of Retainer Brite from the orthodontist but sooner discovered it was cheaper on Amazon!
I wouldn't recommend only wearing them at night, it kind of defeats the object. I stuck rigidly to the 22 hours a day, except on Christmas Day, when I allowed myself an extra hour. My routine was half an hour for breakfast, half an hour for lunch and an hour for dinner. I managed two trips to WDW and one to Japan during this time. I made up a little kit in a ziploc bag containing a toothbrush, floss, tepe stick, toothpaste and mouthwash, which I kept in my handbag all the time so I was always prepared. I cleaned my teeth in restaurant bathrooms all over WDW and no one batted an eyelid.

Hornetgirl, you're so informative thank you for replying. I think it's a good idea to have set times for meals and soak aligners while eating, no probs doing that at home, I do eat super slow so not sure I could eat lunch and brush teeth in 30 mins, I'll have to think of foods that are quick to eat! I guess I'll have no time for desserts or snacks which is good as I need to lose weight but what if I'm hungry and want to eat fruit or something healthy, tough luck?!
How did you cope in Florida? I'm a grazer tbh I hate feeling full and eat so slow that food goes cold, I never finish a meal but snack all the time, theres so much I want to try when away! Do you think snacking and putting aligners back in without brushing teeth would be a better idea than just wearing them at night? Only for 2 weeks of holiday, i will be strict 100% of the time for the rest of the treatment. We wont be going back for years and years I don't want to miss out on anything! X |

My daughter had train tracks 6 years ago, she wore a retainer at night but when her wisdom teeth started to come through her retainer wouldn’t fit. She eventually had surgery to remove the impacted bottom wisdom teeth. By this time her lovely straight teeth had slightly started to move. We looked into Invisalign but because the teeth had to be filed the orthodontist said that she felt train tracks again would be much better. Quote was around 3.5k. In the end daughter has had a permanent retainer fitted behind her front top and bottom teeth for £795. She decided to go this way because her friends didn’t notice there was any movement in her teeth and everyone was saying how straight her teeth are. The teeth that had slightly moved has moved back into placed.

Not being able to snack is hard, I won't lie, but you do get into the habit of not doing it. I don't eat particularly fast and I was ok with the times. I wouldn't worry too much about the aligners being out for a few more minutes while you clean them and your teeth.
Maybe talk to your orthodontist about the best way to manage snacking on holiday. At the very least I would rinse both mouth and aligner with water before putting them back in. All the rest rooms in WDW have a disabled cubicle - maybe use those when you need to clean your teeth if you don't want to do it where people can see you? The key as I understood it is that the aligners need to be in your mouth as long as possible. Or, as my orthodontist told me, "They won't work in your back pocket."

Well I got my invisalign fitted after work yesterday, it feels so strange! I came back with 32 trays, i go back I 4 weeks for extractions and to have my attachments fitted and then it's just weekly scans from my phone through the app! Hope it goes well!

So I went to see an orthodontist and have provisional plans for Invisalign!
The only hesitation I have is that the orthodontist I'm seeing is still very new. I talked to the clinic (which is a specialist orthodontist clinic) about this and they said she'll be doing this alongside their senior orthodontists, but if I wasn't comfortable they could transfer me over to their senior orthodontists... Not quite sure if I should take them up on this? Hope all goes well!

At my dentist to go with the senior orthodontist costs an extra £1k! It was explained to me that invisalign make all the trays and it's basically all worked out by computer, the dentist just positions attachments where invisalign have said to then it's just monitoring. I'm only a day in really but so far nobody can tell I've had them and I'm glad I went for them over traditional braces. Let me know if you decide to go for it!

So I think it's the same cost at the place I'm (planning on) going to whether I'm seeing a junior or senior orthodontist... so think i might request to see someone more senior or more specialised in this case!
Though yeah I know Invisalign seems to be mainly computer simulation based so maybe it doesn't matter? A bit conflicted about this really since the junior orthodontist seemed fairly nice!

I'd be tempted to go with the junior if you felt comfortable with her as if there are any problems she will liase with senior anyway, and like you say it's all computer generated so they would both be doing the same thing anyway 😀
Day 2 and it's still tricky to take trays out, all my teeth feel sore and fragile somehow, chewing isn't pleasant! Wish I had bought lots of soups, will be sticking to soft foods where I can! Worst thing... I miss cups of tea already and my aligners look cloudy in places not sure if it's from tugging to get then out or I've brushed them too hard or soaked too long maybe, but they look a tad grubby on day 2 so I dread day 15! |

Just got my simulation from my orthodontist - exciting times!
Though I think Invisalign is going to overlap with my next WDW trip (provisionally for Wine and Dine half marathon this year) so that might be interesting...
