Looks like they brought forward the starting salary of housekeepers to $15 an hour
This wasn’t meant to happen until 2021 but saw this advert on another board. Suspect they have brought it forward due to problems recruiting in the booming economy. They’ll be paid more per hour than some of the guests:
Job ID: 743007BR Location: Lake Buena Vista, Florida, United States; Orlando, Florida, United States Business: Walt Disney World Resort Date posted: 01/25/2020 Job Summary: For many of our Guests, staying at one of the world famous Walt Disney World Resort Hotels is a dream come true. Our Housekeeping Cast Members help bring those dreams to life by creating special memories and a home- away- from- home experience for each of our Guests every day. Housekeeping Hosts and Hostesses receive a starting rate of $15.00/hour. parksjobs.disneycareers/.../1678/15012223 Do you still tip housekeeping given what they are earning and the dues increases? I try to leave it extremely tidy and would personally now only tip if I got something above and beyond or if something stands out. I have to say though I rarely see them. The people daily emptying the trash (room check) I saw her at Beach Club and she wasn’t housekeeping. I wonder if this 1 year earlier implementation of $15 will impact dues or whether it’s priced in already? I’ve always found our rooms very good, aside from that issue we had at Bay Lake which wasn’t cleanliness, I read some horror stories on housekeeping standards but ours have been nice. Has anyone noticed standards improving?

Our rooms have always been ok but to be honest I don't look too hard!
I strongly suspect we will see it in the dues increase next year. When we are on a DVC trip we didn't tip as to be honest forgot the day they were due to come in. Given the new rise details I probably wouldn't bother tipping in the future as they are just doing what they are being paid to do (yes I know that will be contravertial for some). As wages have increased and are now reasonable it no longer sounds necessary but who knows you never know till your in that situation

My understanding of the issues with housekeeping is that they’re due to lack of time rather than skill or job satisfaction. I don’t expect customers to see any impact of the changes unless they’ve been running short staffed due to low pay.
I don’t tip housekeeping as it’s not supposed to be a tipped role (per the expectations of their tax return). |

Given the choice I wouldn’t have tipped in years gone by and certainly not going forward.
The job they do ranges from poor to acceptable and I am fed up with ringing up for stuff they haven’t left. I have discussed this with Mrs Morrow and I am advised we are continuing to tip

Two more facts I just learnt.
The union did a deal where they work 7 hours get paid 8 at DVC. Also tips are not pooled, so the person who cleaned before you came in, or did the 4 day tidy up, is not necessarily going to see the money taken by the person who cleaned at the end. |

Just to clarify there is no pooling of tips anywhere in Disney.
What the individual gets the individual keeps. Maybe that’s why every cleaner I see has a better iPhone than me Plus they aren’t Disney phones as I know what the protective cases look like.

Interesting, so when we see these stories that servers must have good tips as they have to share with everyone, at Disney this isn’t correct?

Totally correct. Every holiday we dine with a Disney Barman we know plus we know a server in the Ale & Compass very well
They have both confirmed no pooling. Some servers choose to give a bung to a busser so their tables get food quicker but that’s not company policy or common knowledge.
