I used to fly from LGW to Cincinnati quite often on delta flights. I remember one take off we were lined up at the end of the runway at LGW when the pilot revved the engines ready for take off and then cut them back.

He came onto the PA and announced they had a "serious red light" come up and had to go back to the terminal

So back we went whilst they called out the engineers who couldn't find the cause behind the light so the pilot announced they had taken the light out and were flying anyway

There were some worried passenger faces but we arrived in Cincinnati safe and sound.

I did enjoy going there. From memory Cincinatti airport is not in Ohio but northern Kentucky. We used to eat in s chain called Montgomery Ribs - yum yum!

I worked for an IT company whose head office was in cincinatti.

Therefore the pilot must have sight of the whole runway to land. What can happen is a squall comes across the runway when you are nearly down and the pilot has to pull back up.

This happened to us coming back from Florida last year , the pilot was not a happy bunny, over the tannoy he called another pilot a nasty name as they’d jumped the queue for landing
We all had a chuckle about it ,even the cabin crew

I have had son many in and recall but only one at LHR. Many at SAN Diego when BA flew a 747 there and Gibraltar - more fly around than 1st time lands according to my spreadsheet (but it’s is an odd strip)

Very naively I didn’t think it was such a common occurrence. Now I’ve said that it’ll be just my luck that it happens to me this summer!

This has happened to me a few times, it never ever gets any easier! It is awful! It also seems to take hours for the Captain to speak, once you hear his voice you know it’s OK

We just flew back in Storm Dennis last weekend and I was absolutely convinced we wouldn’t land without an aborted landing but we did, I was really surprised
