Sat Nav POI

Hi, just bought a second hand Garmin sat nav for a trip to Orlando and managed update to the latest maps.

I thought it would be easy to find a POI file for the area (Parks etc) but really struggling to find one, unless I'm just really bad at searching

I found the no chain restaurant map POI on the DIBB but can't find a more general one. I would appreciate any advice please. Thanks.

What is a POI? I can only think of “person of interest”, I watch crime shows.

Points of Interest - petrol stations, tourist attractions, etc etc

POI's much harder to manage now than before - best days was when google maps let you send to the Sat Nav

I have never used it but Garmin have a POI database and the instructions look quite good

They also have a POI loader - again never used it.

I have used Garmin Basecamp on the laptop to select and save POI's - it's clunky but works

(feel free to bump the thread and/or suggest other places to add to it)

*edit*
just re-read your post.

theres plenty of other non-restaurant POIs in there, including most of the parks (that actually go to the car parks rather than a random place)

Thanks for all the responses, I really appreciate all your help. The POI database georgemac found looked perfect but when you actually try to use it, you can't really nail down a specific area of POIs but thanks anyway.

Wanye, I appreciate the effort you put into creating and maintaining the POI database and hadn't realised that yours has other points in addition to eateries. I had already installed it and could only see some restaraunts in the POI list but the other points are on there when I search for them.

Last time I used a standalone sat nav was about 10 years ago and it was simple to find a complete POI list for any area you wanted, I was surprised that it's no longer so easy but I suppose it is s partly due to the demise of sat nav units and the rise of the mobile phone for navigation.

Thanks again all.
