Mobile Train station ticket machines

Does anyone know who would be responsible for maintaining a ticket machine at a station. It’s only a small village station so only has the machine and no ticket office or staff. Would it be the local train operator from that station or would it be National Rail? Thanks in advance.

It will be the local train operator. Did you mean Network Rail when you wrote National Rail? Network Rail are responsible for the track and signals together with some of the stations in the the larger cities.

I wasn’t sure who I meant Jim.😂 Thanks, I will contact them. Machine always seems to be out of order these days and staff at destination get very uppity and threaten to fine when all you have is the Trainline online ticket as they can’t accept these as their machines can’t read them apparently. It’s an absolute shambles.

Take a photo on your phone of the machine and show that to the staff at your destination if they get uppity.

Thanks, have done. They know it’s broken but say that it’s an offense to travel without the physical ticket. I really don’t know what the answer is. They would accept a mobile ticket but because the journey is via two different operators you can’t get one. It’s bonkers!

It depends who manages the station. I just typed into google who manages ... railway station and got the answer for our small local one.

Get your ticket from the operators website /app, not Trainline. Probably find you don't pay the additional Trainline costs that way as well.

The journey is two trains and comes under two operators so is almost double the price to buy two separate tickets for each train rather than a through ticket for the whole journey unfortunately. It just seems crazy in this day and age that this situation can happen.

The individual train companies do not only sell tickets on their portion of the network - they sell all tickets exactly the same as thetrainline do. Its just they don't charge any booking fees - so you can get the exact same tickets, just cheaper
