We weren’t allowed either. I was a goody two shoes though and never “begged”.

My boyfriend at the time got in trouble for not sending me a Valentine card so I was probably the only person to get a ‘Happy Decimal Day’ card on the 15 th February

Same here. I could write a thread about what we weren't allowed to do in the leafy London suburbs in the late 50/60s.

Yesterday I was testing my grandson age 9 on his tables. We were discussing why we larn up to the 12 times off by heart, the answer of course is based on 12 pence in £, my DIL was shocked by this!

I was a child in the 90's and it was trendy to wear a 25 peseta coin on a necklace if you'd been on holiday to Spain.

Decimal is definitely easier, and some shops cant do that without a calculator. Imagine giving change from a £5 note when you'd spent one pound nine and eight pence ' apeney

The thrupenny bits were very useful for holding your nylons up, when your suspender button broke. 😂

(Only ladies of a certain age will get this) 😂

As a teenager my bus fare was 1.1/2 pence each way, a fruit lolly at the corner shop was 1p, and Mum mum gave me 3p every school day, either for my bus fare or if I walked I could buy crisps or sweets with the 3p.

My dad was a bus driver and Mum's housekeeping for a family of 4 was £7 a week.
