philly layover ... 7 hours

I have managed to find flights and hotel vis Ba for £1800 for the 4 of us for October half term ... the only problem is on the way back the Philly layover is just over 7 hours ...

Can we leave the airport?! not sure i can take 7 hours in the airport followed by a 7 hour flight!

You could nip out and see the Liberty Bell and Rocky steps in that time.

I might be wrong but I think Dixonsontour did this in one of their trippies and there was an open top bus tour that picked up at the airport.

There is a rail stop / metro at the airport also.

We had a similar layover in December 2017 so we decided to leave the airport and go for a meal. We also saw the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, what we weren’t prepared for was the cold, it was -6 when we were there!

Could I ask what dates you’re looking at for your trip please as I had problems getting the Philly connection on the website?

If you've only got 7 hours, you should keep it simple. The most unique (with historical importance) item in Philadelphia is a tour of Independence Hall. Then stop over at Reading Terminal Market (sort of Philadelphia's version of NYC's Chelsea Market) to grab a bite to eat before heading back to the airport. Try a cheese steak, as Philadelphia is "famous" for it.

**If anyone wants to try a vegan version of the Philly Cheese Steak, I would highly recommend the one from Hip City Veg. Even my "meat only please" uni son loved it and sheepishly said that he would have it again (what?!?!).

23/10 returning 31/10

Had to ‘customise my trip’ to get it to work 👍

We have a similar layover on our return in aug, but I booked it as it was so cheap, we plan to either get the train from the airport into philly for a few hours, maybe do a tour or independence hall and a bit of dinner, if not I will book a day room at a local hotel ( one with a pool) and just relax. I will decide nearer the time.
Just to add iam going to see if our flight from mco to phl is overbooked and volunteer to take a later fight when we check in. Our flight is in the summer hols so may be in luck.

We were supposed to be having a layover in Philadelphia this July coming but our connecting flight from Philadelphia was cancelled and BA have now put us on a direct flight so don’t make plans that might involve an upfront cost would be my advice in case you get lucky and end up going direct like us.👍🏻
