My dad passed away...
Some of you may remember I posted recently about my dad who unfortunately suffered from Alzheimers for the last seven years and was then diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on the 1st October.
He passed away in his care home on the 22nd December at the age of only 62 and despite expecting this I was totally unprepared as he seemed to be doing so well and we really thought he would last over the Christmas period. We had visited him the day before and he had been in such good spirits that day, seemed very cheery and was still mobile and eating and drinking. Then the charge nurse called me at 4am the next morning to go and collect my mum and come in as they felt the end was near. This is my first ever experience of being with someone whilst they were coming to the end of life and I must say I was very shocked with the audible rattle in the chest, he stayed like that until 10am and then his breathing became peaceful and he passed around 10:30am. I am trying to take comfort from the fact that he is now at peace and no longer suffering and that my mum and I could both be with him when he passed. It has certainly been a different Christmas for us this year and my dads cremation is on Hogmanay, personally I cant wait to see out this year and hope for better times in 2021 for everyone. I am so grateful that we managed to take him to Florida last year before he was completely ravaged by both these diseases and we made wonderful memories with the kids and their papa.
