Glad it’s not just me with a December birthday who feels like this. I’ve even lost a few birthday presents now as they were always to follow and never did. I’ve lost out on meals out as restaurant menus are smaller and geared for Christmas parties. After Christmas people forget you’ve not had that meal out for your birthday.

So for those with a December birthday I understand how you feel.

For those who know people with a December birthday, remember just because they were born in December their birthday is still something special to them.

Totally agree. I’m on 18th. Had birthdays snowed off and cancelled as a child, joint presents or birthday presents in Christmas paper…these days people either forget my birthday completely (happened again this year) or just do a token gift but don’t manage to meet up or similar. I always try and make a big fuss about other peoples birthdays too.

I’m already planning my next big birthday to be in the summer instead, for more daylight if nothing else. I’d love the option to go out without eating turkey or booking and paying a deposit. Family always make it special.

It's my neices birthday today she is 7. She loves it, itsalways a holiday and always a day when everyone's together.

We make a big, big effort that she has a special time in the day as her time and she has a party mid year. She always has seperate birthday and Xmas presents.

When my MIL was alive it was her birthday on Boxing Day and she lived a family knees up that day.

Mine is very early January .
First or second day back after the festivities. A mega busy time of year work wise so can never take the day off and also working the weekend afterwards so don’t even get chance to properly celebrate it
Everyone partied out , and because i am a bloke and struggle to offer suggestions for Xmas presents, so no chance for anyone to have any ideas as to what to get me for my birthday .

So invariably just get gift cards or money.
Normally a complete non-event.

So would I, mine is 2nd January.

Our eldest son has his birthday on Boxing Day and I’ve lost count of the amount of times people hadn’t had time to buy him a card or present because it’s Christmas it must be so difficult to pick up one extra present when you’re out shopping anyway.
Don’t even start me on the ones who used to say I’ve spent a bit more and bought him a better birthday/Christmas present the ones who wrapped his birthday presents in Christmas paper and the cards for your Christmas birthday.
My granddaughter is on the 27th and by tomorrow the tree will be down to make sure her birthday is completely separate from Christmas

Well, my birthday is Boxing Day (today ), and yes, I would say I have missed out on birthdays, especially as a child.

Birthday and christmas presents doubled up, never any party, rarely even a card. To be honest, its what I've grown up with so it just seems 'normal' to me.

My hubby and kids always make an effort to make the day a bit special, which I really appreciate, and I love spending time with them on the day.

I have lots of family birthdays around Christmas though. My niece is the 11th, MIL 12th, Im 26th, my brother and SIL are 31st, and my other (ex) SIL is the 1st, and by FAR the worst day to have a birthday is New Years Day! Everyone is all partied out, starting new diets, giving up alcohol etc...

Definitely not a good time for a birthday!

Happy birthday I hope you have a lovely day.
I always made sure our son had a birthday party when he was younger usually on the 27th and most turned up I think the parents were glad to have a bit of peace for a few hours 🤣

I love threads like this one that validate feelings you have, great to know you're not alone with your thoughts on a December birthday.
