If i had a 2 pm lunch, I would start it about 6 am on medium, then low when it slips of the knife i stick in it. I would wrap it in tin foil for 15/30 mins before carving. (While husband cleans the slow cooker)

The remaining juice is used as a basis for gravy.

Yum

6am who starts cooking at that ungodly hour!
We will eat at 6pm when my son finishes work, normally around 3 but he works every Sunday. I only have low and high on my slow cooker, I’m going to have a go, I read cook on low for 5 hours, will that do it? I really don’t have a clue with beef but I really don’t need anymore shoe leather!

Edited to add, to make sure it's not pink I would add on an hour to these timings
If it’s a bit pink that’s ok, as long as I don’t kill anyone and it’s not tough!

I would slide a skewer into the meat at five hours to see if it goes in smoothly, if any resistance cook for an extra hour .

Never start low…start medium/ high then go down….its more fool proof.

8 hrs will do it easy…just monitor with your knife. I am sure you can stick it in where it matters

get a meat probe thermometer and cook it at 120c for a while (3-4 hours hopefully) (covered in foil or something) depending on the size of the joint, cook it to an internal temperature of 55c (rareish). you can remove it and finish it off later if you want at this point, but to finish, just stick it in uncovered for 20-30 minutes along with your veg or whatever. take it out to rest (covered in foli) when it hits 60c. leave for 10 mins or so while you finish off veg/gravy/whatever

a meat probe is an essential tool for not overcooking big chunks of meat, you can pick one up for £10-15 off amazon. if you dont mind spending a bit more (£30-40 then you can get some nice bluetooth/wireless ones nowadays too)

i got this one for my mum last year, and it does the job nicely

amazon/ThermoPro-D...f_=as_li_ss_tl

He’d rather have a bit of shoe leather beef, he’ll be happy then!

I went to M&S to get Beef they had none, sainsburys had small bits so I got this in Asda. It says cook for 2 hours eight minutes so should I still cook it in the slow cooker for 5 hours?
