Child Passport renewal Delay - 9 weeks and counting!

Evening

So submitted a passport renewal for my daughter 9 weeks ago and still heard nothing! We fly 3 weeks on Friday and I believe there is nothing we can do until we’ve been waiting 10 weeks and even then, I have no idea what I’m supposed to do and we only have 2 weeks to sort it.

At present I’m lying awake stressed out about it and I can’t get in the slightest excited about the holiday as it just feels like we’re not going to be going!

Any advice or what have other people done if in the same position? Options we’re currently considering are turning up at a local (2 hours away) passport office first thing in the morning and waiting on Friday this week (so will be 9 weeks and 1 day since applying), waiting until 10 weeks and then doing the same or trying to get passport office to expedite it but have to get through first which we’re hearing is impossible and then worst case scenario is waiting until 48 hours before and turning up at a passport office with everything crossed but that is a huge risk obviously!

I would contact them asap, too much at stake to be left without the chance of receiving it. Hope you get it sorted soon. What does it say on your tracking?

There was a thread about this recently and I think they went to their local passport office and it was issued. I’d take everything you might need - birth certificate for child eg. and ID for your self and head there. If it’s only two hours away, you have nothing to lose except time and a bit of petrol money. Good luck.

I think the online forms get sent somewhere different. I've always used our local passport office. I think you probably need to see if you can get an in person apt. I know this will be a lot more money but, better safe than sorry.

Another dibber has posted about this and happily they were able to get the passport at the office.

My friend has literally just been through the same. She rang the passport office and they told her that once it had been waiting ten weeks, you can ring them and they will pull them out of the backlog for those travelling very soon.

They definitely did that for her renewal and her sons first passport, they are travelling at the beginning of august.

Good luck OP! 👍

They certainly are working in very strange ways! DD passport I did through the post office, photo refused then had to verify hers and my identity, but had passport back in three weeks, and old passport returned week later. Even with the need for extra photo etc I was pleased with that timescale! Hoping people get theirs completed and sent out soon. X

Have you had any updates at all - they normally text/email when it goes through the different stages - did you apply online or a paper form? Have you had confirmation they have received it? - if you are getting updates what stage does it say it’s at?

I would call now if you haven’t had any of the above.
9 weeks is a really long time for a straight forward renewal, it sounds like something is blocking it I.e photos, countersignature rejected etc.

Good luck.
