Where to start planning ?

Would like to take my family to Japan in the summer of 2022. Although the summer is not ideal, its the only time we can go. We usually go on holiday once every 3 years and go for 4 weeks.

Is there enough to do in Japan for 4 weeks. We would want to travel around and would want to see things rather than just do Disney.

Where to I start to get a plan together. Seems very daunting.

Thanks.

Well you have picked the date - which is a start!

What do you want to do, generic stuff at least - like see temples, see mountain, experience ... what?

City lovers, country lovers, want to stay in hotels or experience Japanese inns?

That sort of thing - but I could spend 4 weeks going around cities personally :-)

We are watching lots of YouTube videos - Japan Guide, TDR Explorer, Abroad in Japan (very funny but can be very sweary, not for kids!)

We have just booked our holiday through Travel Counsellors - 11 days, taking in Disney, Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo. Would love to do more if we had more time.

We too are planning summer 22, july first second and third weeks. We last went in july 2019. Weather is hot but not debilitating so, just take things at pace. Disney queues were all short anyway!

Decide a rough idea of what you want out of the holiday. To give you an idea, our itinerary is going to be 1 week tokyo inc disney, 1 week kyoto with a day or 2 in osaka, 4 days hiroshima

Tokyo will be disney, ghibli, pokemon cafe, sightseeing .
Kyoto must will be Nara, caligraphy (With sane company we had tea ceremony last time). Old imperial palace with some more temples and sightseeing.
Osaka might have universal if i can find the budget.
Hiroshima is unknown at the moment.

We were booked to go in summer last year for the first time. It now looks like it will be 2022 before we manage to make the trip but for just over 2 weeks we were mainly doing Tokyo, Kyoto (inc Osaka from here) and Hiroshima. Could easily have added another couple of weeks on and would have then headed up to Hokkaido, as well as the Hakone area around Mt Fuji, and the Japanese alps. And we weren’t planning on doing any Disney or Universal.

I did find it trickier to plan than other multi-base holidays but mainly due to working out the travel and luggage transportation as the plan is to use trains.

A great starting point is the Japan guide website japan-guide/

Have fun planning.

I would not allocate 4 days in Hiroshima, there is not a lot to do there. I think I allowed 3 days and that was a day too long.

Yes, I was just coming to say this too!

You could always add in 4 days but mix it up with 2 days in Hiroshima and 2 days in nearby Miyajima and stay at a traditional Ryokan for example?
