You get a superb recording and streaming device.
You also get a £50+ a month bill to go with it.

If the requirement is to be able to record Freeview then the Humax box mentioned is probably the easiest unless you already have a smart TV that can do it and all you may need is an external hard drive for a one off £50.

No you don't. Sky signature with Netflix is £25 p.m.

Which is still a £300 a year recurring cost every year to record the OP's free channels.

Agree if they are looking to subscribe to more channels and content but not of they just want to record the free channels they already have.

Many Smart TV's have an option to record to a USB drive, but you would need one will multiple tuners to record another channel whilst watching one.
But also remember that many of the programs on freeview generally are on catch up (freeview play , itv hub, iplayer etc). So depending on what you want you may not need e recorder.

It would be wasted on me, there’s more than enough for me on freeview channels, Amazon Prime etc. This is why I want a recorder.

How do you watch Amazon Prime?

I think freeview channels could shrink with 5G requirements and also the possible purchase of ITV by Amazon.

I've just come across this review of the new humax aura. It's packed with features! You can use it as a freeview recorder but also as an android device as it has access to the Google play store. What that means is there's loads of apps you can put on it including disney+ which you can watch in 4k if you have a compatible TV.
Only thing that seems to be missing is netflix but they are trying to work that out with them. However it has built in chromecast support so you could cast netflix too it.
If you don't know, chromecast is a great thing to use! I've done it for years, so easy! Basically you can send video, audio or images to the tv so long as the app on your phone/tablet has chromecast support. You'll know this it there's a TV logo in thr top right usually, that looks like it has WiFi in thr corner of it. Try opening bbc iplayer & you'll see it.
Also it has 3 tuners which means you could record up too 4 programs & watch a fifth!

It's £249 everywhere however at richer sounds it's £49 & £26 for 6 years cover which you get back if you don't use it.

On our LG smart TV we can just plug a hard drive/USB stick and record/time shift using that. No need to buy another box at all. I'm sure other makes of TVs will probably have a similar set up.
