No nothing new really. Been going on for years but maybe more in the background historically.
My late Dad was a Police Officer and in the 50's and 60's he used to have to work a 20 hour shift on polling day - unpaid, no overtime back then. He and his colleagues had to visit every Polling Station at regular intervals. At 10.00pm every Polling Station had an Officer asigned to it to guard the boxes. Then the Cardiff bus company ran a bus around the City and all the boxes and Officers were collected and taken to City Hall where the Officers remained whilst the count happened. Officers willl be present at all count locations tonight. Normally the Divisional Commader and his/her Deputy plus a few others. Good for networking!

They have been saying since Monday that some polling stations would have a police presence, haven't been yet so I don't know about mine.

I was the only person at our polling station! We are rural though and I went immediately after the school run - just me, the officials and the police lol!

None at mine though did notice more cars and vans than usual driving around so imagine they are keeping an eye on the polling stations from a distance in this area. Remember police being at the polling stations when I was at uni 5-10 years ago so definately not new for them to be involved.
