MCO Security Delays, TSA say allow 3 Hours to get through the airport!
Just a heads up- from now until sometime in Jan the TSA are doing additional screening at MCO and are saying arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure
DME will now pick up 4 hours before flight departure!

This is no different to what happens now. Magic Express always picks you up at least 4 hours before your flight.

I was just about to write a thread on this. We used DME today to get to MCO our flight time was 14:30 and our pick up from hotel was 11:50 we assumed this would be enough time as they knew our flight time, we'll it was a stressful airport adventure.. By the time we did the Delta self check-in and then wait in queues to check luggage in (didn't think we needed to check in before airport) our boarding time was 14:10 the security gate gave an estimated 19-23 minutes to get through but it took more like 45 I asked in line if we would make our boarding time as I'd seen a couple of families taken to front of line, but I was just told 'can't guarantee'! We got on the monorail to get to our gate at 14:20 ten minutes late for boarding! Thankfully they were 5 mins behind with boarding so we were OK, but honestly standing in that security screening line, ensuring we had everything out of bags and ready for x-ray so we wouldn't be held up was a complete nightmare! I was sure we were going to miss our flight! Kids were told many times quite abruptly to just 'shush!' we need to get through this!.. All good in the end, and no delays so caught our connection at JFK. But yes s definite heads up to anyone using DME check you are picked up on time!

I was there a couple of weeks ago and "fast track" took well over an hour.

It’s always been 4 hours for UK flights so no change for us. It just means it’ll now be 4 hours for all flights including domestic American flights.

The problem is everyone is advised to get there earlier 4h now may not be enough as the TSA do not have an increased resource so there are more people are cramming the security area. If you are on MDE I would be worried with a 4h departure, remember the flight closes 40 mins before departure and you must be at the gate at this time or could be refused boarding.

With so many people arriving early at MCO - and who can blame them? - it's putting pressure on seating in the depature lounges and gates. I've struggled to find a seat in the past and as for using the fast food outlets, they can be ultra busy with people sitting there for ages.
MCO isn't the airport it once was. It seems to have been overtaken by 'procedures' rather than volumes of passengers. |
