Daily tablet chemo
I have been on this for 15 weeks now, the first 7 weeks were fine but I have had really bad diarrhoea (sorry) for approx 8 weeks up to 5 times a day.
At first I tried Imodium no joy so consultant put me on codeine but it is still as bad they just say we don't think it's the disease(I have advanced thyroid cancer in my hips , pelvis etc) it's the medication. Has anyone had this while on chemo if so what medication did you have I am getting fairly desperate One other thing did you go off your food I have no food fancies at all. Thankyou for reading Joy Edited at 10:08 AM. |

Hello Joy, I am sorry I cant offer any info, I read your thread as my MIL has just started the daily tablet following chemo.
I didn't want to read and run, wishing you well and hopefully someone will be able to offer feedback on experiences soon

Hi Joy, no advice other than maybe pop on to the macmillan forums. There will probably be someone over there who can help. My hubby is on a chemo at the moment which is having the opposite effect to you Hope you get some good advice from somebody xx

Morning
I have just finished six months of chemo not the daily tablet though! And must say I had the same problem with food, never fancied anything at all! We found it hard going to decide what to have and many nights Mick had a proper meal and I just had a jacket potato and butter, more to have some food than anything else. Was a bit worried I wouldn't enjoy my Christmas dinner but fortunately I really did and my appetite is much better now. Can't help with the other problem but hope it is soon sorted. All the best for the rest of your treatment Joan

I've just looked through my bag of tricks left over from chemo in the summer. I didn't have a daily tablet, but was prescribed with the following: Loperamide for diarrhoea, Domperidone or Ondansetron for nausea and vomiting, all of which worked pretty well. Your gp, oncologist or chemo nurses should be able to prescribe/get you sorted. All the best x

Hi
Thanks for all of your replies Loperamide I have tried even up to 2 tabs every time I go no joy, now on codeine phosphate 4 a day because they bung you up not me they don't. I should really be the other way what with the morphine and codeine so getting desperate now. I rang my Mcmillan nurse yesterday she has prescribed anti sickness pills and asked if I had tried the fybergel but gp and consultant said not to use that. Has anyone tried that for diarrhoea? I also asked her to get me in with a dietician, she asked me if I was losing weight excuse me but I rang you before xmas because I was worried she just told me I had to force myself to eat but when you don't fancy it it is very hard. I also rang specialist nurse about the diarrhoea she is talking to my consultant will get back to me as soon as she has heard back from him,she is very reliable always rings back. Thankyou for reading Joy |

PLEASE seek professional advice. My FIL suffered from the same symptoms and didn't seek help because he thought it was normal for the chemo.
What had happened was he developed a reaction to the treatment which was very rare. This may not be the case for you but it is still worth getting it checked out. BB
