Mobile Visas? HK & shanghai

Hi guys
Just back from a fab 3 wks in Orlando/ Anaheim 😀 Thinking about next year but only have a week to spare so I've been pricing up HK & shanghai! We were thinking about an over night flight out from U.K. then 3 nights at Disney HK & then fly to Disney shanghai for 3 nights, then fly back to uk. Do we need visas for shanghai? We will only be going to Disney, not exploring outside due to the short visit! Hubby seems to think we do & theyre £175? I'm confused, thought I read you can stay in shanghai for up to 144 hrs without a visa? Anyone know please?
Thanks 👍😊

There's a 144 hour visa for China, but if I'm not mistaken it requires you to be in transit in China on your way to a destination that is not your home country. So you could fly UK-Shanghai-HK-UK, and you could use the 144 hour visa as your next destination from Shanghai is HK. But you couldn't use it if you were flying UK-HK-Shanghai-UK.

(Hopefully if I'm wrong someone else will come along and correct me!)

Thankyou, I hadn't realised the bit about the home country, I just thought you had to enter from one country & leave to another but I get what you mean! Can someone confirm that is the case please? Thanks

The 144 hours visa is a transit visa - so you would need to do Shanghai first and HK Second

I did this and can confirm you can't return to the uk directly from shanghai, you need to be in transit somewhere else

I'm pretty sure that you are ok to travel under the 144 hour transit visa.
By travelling UK-HK-SHANGHAi-UK it's ok because Shanghai is your transit between Hong Kong and the U.K.
It's similar to my travel last month which was UK-JAPAN-SHANGHAI-UK.
Good luck with your planning

As I understand it you have to leave China via a third country for the 144 hr transit visa, so using our holiday as an example we enter china via South Korea, and then fly china to Hong Kong so we qualify

sorry, I wasn't very clear :P I meant you can't go UK-SHANGHAI-UK it's all about the third country. This explained it for me, I like things in pictures
