how long do your kids commute to secondary schools?

How long is your kids commute to secondary schools?

Looking at various options for school for my son and I would love to hear from others. Also what were you looking for when choosing school?

My son cycles 2 and a half miles to the station then has a 5 minute train journey and then a 20 minute walk to school from there. That’s only because the next town from us had a very good sixth form otherwise only about a 15-20 minute cycle to the nearest local high school.
We looked for one that had a decent ofsted rating and good reviews from parents. The tour helped too

I drive my DS 5 mins to the bus stop (would take him about 25 mins to walk) and then he is on the school bus for about 35 mins. He could have gone to a closer school but we chose his because it's integrated (I.e Catholics, protestants and other educated together, this isn't common in NI) and because it seemed to have good pastoral care, extra curricular activity and a strong community/ethos. He only started this month.

Another factor for us was what A level provision the schools offered.

We live in a semi rural village and our nearest senior school is around 5 miles away.

We chose it because (a) it was a "good" Ofsted rated school (b) was our nearest (c) had a school bus service (but no local buses which go there).

It's around a 15 minute journey, bus stop is 5 mins away.

My ds is 14 now. Secondary school is 2km away. He walks with his pal or cycles when the weather is decent. When its bad I drop him. We r very lucky too school is excellent and he has settled really well in it.

We're really lucky, DDs school is 5 minutes walk (at the back of the primary school). She chose it after looking around a couple of others - she liked the feel of it and thought the teachers were really welcoming at the open evening.

How does he find the commute so far?

one of the schools I like is 2.2 km but no bus to there. Nice walk but I keep worrying about really bad weather as it is not short walk in the rain. I work from home 2 days a week which is help, but what about the other 3.

My daughter's school is a 20 minute car journey. I drive her to school as I also work there. The school is a small rural academy which is rated outstanding by Ofsted. We moved her to this school when she was in Year 3 (she's now in Year 9) as our local high school was declining rapidly and went into special measures a few years ago.
