We stayed Hotel Ala in October 18 for our 30th Wedding Anniversary
Lovely hotel, breakfast included for us too, we overlooked a small canal, great location 10 mins walk St Marks Square, vaperetto stop right by it too
We got a water taxi from airport didn’t book but wish I had as it was hard to get one
Classy hotel right by it too, Gritti Palace, at their Bar Longhi we had cocktails over looking the Grand Canal, very expensive I drank slowly
Get out early we did lots of walking
In fact Hubbie said he’d rather go back here than NY 😊
First pics Hotel Ala, back entrance & our bedroom
2nd pic rooftop terrace
3rd pic cocktails

Gorgeous pics!
It was a minefield trying to pic a hotel with not knowing where to stay! But so glad to hear you’ve stayed there & enjoyed it. It looks so lovely, thank you. Xx

Don’t pay the asking price for any souvenirs, haggle. I got a really ornate mask for less than a third of the original price as my Italian nephew’s girlfriend did the deal as she used to be a Venice resident

To be fair you can’t go wrong anywhere in Venice as you can walk anywhere .

I love Venice, best time we had was the day we just wandered the backstreets…..lots of quiet, dusty squares and tiny bars with very cheap drinks……..we bar crawled the day……and you can’t get lost really……

Our first visit we went in March and the weather was beautiful sunny everyday, days spent wandering are the best a surprise around every corner. Take a trip across to San Giorgio Maggiore and go to the top of the tower for some amazing views of Venice. Our second trip was cancelled 😢as it was the start of the pandemic but we will be back it is a beautiful place.

We had one night/day in Venice in august 2020 at the end of our lake Garda holiday. We took the train to the airport, which was very easy. So easy I don’t remember it!
Really loved our day there. It was incredibly quiet, with beautiful weather. We wandered miles, went into the basilica (the ground floor wasn’t open, but you still see most of the inside), the bell tower, took a gondola ride. We would have loved to have stayed longer.

My advice would be to make the effort to walk down to the Giardiniera area and enjoy the gardens and peaceful area away from the busy shopping and tourist areas. Arsenale and the Ghetto areas are also interesting to look at.

My favourite street in the whole world is in Venice - Via Garibaldi. Stunning tree-lined avenue with a very cool fountain at the end which has hundred of terrapins inhabiting it!

I’ll definitely check that out 🤩

Find somewhere off the main tourist square and stand at the bar area sipping aperol spritz and eating chiccetti like the Venetians do. By far the nicest way to people watch. Loved Venice. X
