I wouldn't want to ask, but if it was my daughter going I'd feel better if I'd made a contribution - I think agreeing an amount per day up front is a good solution - that way it's all settled.

I wouldn’t ask and I would just pay for my daughter’s friend. However I would want to pay something if it was my child. The difficulty is I wouldn’t know what to offer as people spend different amounts depending on what they can afford. Not a helpful answer I know but maybe as has been suggested all inclusive is the way to go.

We have decided to go all inclusive. Mum wants to pay her share and we will pay for any trips and any other extras when we are there. We have never done a family all inclusive so it will be different.
My next problem will be how much freedom do you give 2 16 year olds in a holiday resort ! I don’t think I need to worry about them falling out. They are only a couple of days apart in age, have known each other from birth and have never fallen out yet. |

At sixteen a lot of us were out at work ……… sixteen is a funny age , some very savvy, others not at all.
I’d base it on how much freedom they have at home with a check in agreement that if they are going off they keep you updated. The usual, don’t seperate regardless advice . If you are all inclusive they probably won’t stray too far anyway (or just secretly electronically tag them ) |

Loves sailing in the sun!

We're taking our children and partners* on a sailing holiday with us next year to celebrate OH's 60th and this is exactly what we're doing - we've paid for flights and accommodation and will pay for meals if we go out together, but when they go out without us then it's their expense. Mind you they're older, and all working. Son and his fiancée are on good money and can easily afford to pay for their food, but daughter is on a low wage and most definitely couldn't, but we felt we needed to treat them all the same.
*Sadly DD split up from her boyfriend not long after we booked the flights, but that's a risk we took. You never know, she might have someone new by the time we go away at the end of May!
