Brightline - Miami to West Palm Beach opens May 19th -UPDATE Work started at OIA 21/5/19

The brand new Brightline train service from Miami to West Palm Beach via Fort Lauderdale is finally due to open on May 19th. It will eventually be extended to the new South Intermodal Centre at MCO.

miamiherald/news/loca...210916549.html

You can use the MetroMover from MIA to the interchange with Brightline to travel to Fort Lauderdale (30 mins) and West Palm Beach ( 1hour) and 3 hours to Orlando (but don't hold your breath on that one)

Edited at 10:25 AM. Reason: Update re work starting at OIA

The link from MIA is actually MetroRail, not MetroMover, which is a different system in the Downtown area.
The Orlando link isn't expected before 2021. They've got to upgrade the existing track to Cocoa and then build a new 40 mile section from there to MCO alongside the 528. They are currently negotiating land purchase.

Viring trains to take over Brightline... I only hope they are more successful at this than their attempt at E Coast mainline which ended up costing taxpayers a huge amount of money

Thank you Stanley camel. I'm away to look that up. Unfortunately a bit late for our April trip but may help in the future for us as we don't stay in Miami, but usually go North a bit.

Virgin have announced that work finally started around Orlando Airport for the Brightline extention from Miami yesterday. The announcment is as clear as mud but at least it is a start.
