Freedom trail Boston

For those that have done this, did you book a tour? If so would you recommend or can we do it ourselves? We don’t have much time (flights have been changed which has taken a day off Boston) so don’t want to be wandering around aimlessly. I have seen some tours on Groupon.
How long did it take you?

The actual trail is 2 and a half miles so wouldn't take long to walk, so easy to follow the red bricks, but it would depend if you wanted to stop at the numerous points of interest on the trail
It took me and DH a full morning as we did stop to take in some but not all of the points of interest
Boston is a fabulous city I loved it there

We just walked it ourselves. Plenty to see along the way. I don’t think you need a tour.

We just did it on our own with the map from the tourist office. I expect there's an app these days. The length of time depends on the weather I think. It can get very hot in the summer. After you cross the bridge, there are very few places to stop and sit down for a drink. I remember an ice cream shop near the SS Constitution, but that's about it. We were dead on our feet, but fortunately we also had hop on hop off tickets so we combined the walk with a bus trip.

We took the tour as we are sooooooo bad at navagiting! Hubby and I only have one argument a year; when in holiday and we get lost!
The tour was the shorter one and not just about the freedom tour

We took the tour as it was included in the Go card, quite a few people joined us as we walked around and the guide didn't appear to notice. The guide was very informative and I would recommend it however not all of the trail was included. We walked the rest of it ourselves later in the holiday, very simple to navigate yourselves.

We bought a trail guide book from the visitor centre in Boston Common. We didn't do the whole trail but the book was easy to follow.
