Not for me it wasn’t. I didn’t walk up to the main exit. Coming out of Calamity Jane and turning right, there is a little walkway that took us right onto the path, just before the bridge. Much quicker.

I wouldn't pay extra for river facing, just try your luck and request a building closer to the park.

I think Dav was saying that Sitting Bull is closer to the parks than Calamity Jane, not that it’s closer to the riverside path.

As you said, they’re both a short stroll from the path - but you’ll be closer to the parks when you hit the riverside near Sitting Bull, as it’s after the Santa Fe bridge, while Calamity Jane is before it.

To the OP, I would just get a standard room. We did that on our first stay, and got Wild Bill Hicock, which was handy for breakfast (I think it’s now a near-facilities block, not standard). It was still a nice walk down to the park, despite being one of the further away buildings.

I didn’t know about room requests then, but when we stayed in Santa Fe, we requested a room near the path to the park - we were put near the boundary with Sequoia Lodge, so we were nice and close without paying any extra.
