debit card for USA

Is there a debit card which works in the USA where you can take photos of a cheque and pay it in? My daughter is travelling to USA for 4 months and will get paid via USA cheque and her bank account doesn't accept photos of cheques - any one have any experience of this or can offer any help at all? Thanks!

I know HSBC have international account option and the app does cheque photos to pay in.
Worth checking well ahead of time as may take couple of weeks to set up

Lloyds takes pictures of cheques but I've only ever tried it with UK ones.

A UK bank can’t process US cheques in the same way as UK cheques. So I presume the photo option wouldn’t work.

Could she open an account with a US bank and pay her cheques in over the counter ? The US cheque clearing system is different from the UK so I’m not surprised the photo method isn’t widely available.

Won’t she have to open a US bank account to get paid? I have a cousin who went on the J1 visa in 2017 and the first 2 things she had to do when she arrived were go to get the social security number and then bring it into a bank and open an account.

She opened with Chase bank which had that feature on the app and lots of other bells and whistles I haven’t seen in the U.K.

There is a large processing fee and a really rubbish exchange rate for paying a foreign cheque into a UK account. Also if she then wanted to withdraw that money from an ATM in the US she would pay fees and incur exchange rate difference again.

Best option would be to open a simple US account or get the person paying them to pay by bank transfer or even good old cash.

Cheque wage payments in the US are really rare, so I doubt you'd have an issue asking for a different payment option

I would very strongly advise not to do this
Let’s just say they take photos of international cheques (unlikely)
She will pay am international transaction fee to convert it into her account and then she will have to pay to transfer it back again when she spends it out there.

She would be far better to get a USA bank account.
