We’ve been watching it and think it’s great. I can’t help but think how much of the truth is still being kept hidden though.

I am finding it gripping to watch, I can't imagine how those 3 men who turned the valves or the miners felt, knowing that what you are doing will cause you an early death !

I watched the first episode last night, it was awful how they were in denial how bad the situation was. My sons gf is Ukrainian Canadian so I must ask her about it, she said she lived not far from Chernobyl.

Very well made, can recommend the accompanying PodCast with the writer, it fills in a few gaps and explains the fact/fiction elements.

We have just watched all 3 episodes that are up so far. Harrowing and unbelivable. Just shocking to think how many were sent or left to their deaths with the only priority being the cover up and control of information.

DH has also enjoyed googling some of the scientific elements and learning about nuclear reactors (he is a materials scientist so finds this very fun! It makes my head hurt).

Thank you for the above reccomendation of the pod cast, will definitley look for that.

I needed to watch it for my ds 13, because he has interest in lots of disasters...wars etc. But I’m glad I have watched it.
As many I remembered it happening, and moved to Germany in 87/88 and thinking back how strange that we just went about our business.
We also live just down the road from a nuclear power plant and hoping awful disasters like this will never happen again. We always seem to learn from mistakes the most awful way.

Watching this and ended up reading about windscale in 1957. There but for the grace of god.

My SIL works in a nuclear plant as a scientist and they have practice drills every year. So much safer now.

Yeah I don’t think the windscale disaster is well known around here despite it being so close, I wouldn’t have known about it had it not been for my husband having read about it and it wasn’t that long ago really, though not as recent as Chernobyl

Great so far we have watched the first two... scary how close it came to a european wide disaster... although was bad enough...

i can recall a while after some Ukrainian kids came over to the north east for a holiday/clean air break with some charity, it was on local tv news, they took them to the metro centre and said they could pick a present each . they all chose to get fresh fruit to take home* for their relatives...

* dont imagine they were actually allowed to do it?
