Hi- I'm struggling so much to plan our family trip in August. It's my 1st time and I'm finding it all overwhelming. We fly out on the 23rd Aug for 2 weeks and I am trying to look at which parks to do on which day. I've looked at the busy day guide but it's not really helping as I've heard your best going to the park that has the magic hours but on the guide it say's that the least recommended one due to crowds. Is anyone on here going the same/similar time who has already planned their trip and wouldn't mind sharing their plans.

We are going at the end of April and I did our itinerary first based on the crowd calendar predictions, and then based on our ADRS, and then worked parades/shows into that. After fastpass day next month I will tweak as necessary.

It is overwhelming to be honest. When I last visited it was 2001 and I was 10 years old, so not only did I not have to do anything except show up, but it wasn't necessary to do all this advance planning and booking. I'm really feeling the pressure as I'm the lead planner for our trip this year with my boyfriend and my parents!

It is a really daunting task! I am the main planner for our trip in July. DH and myself have been once before in 2005. We stayed off site and used a single page busy day guide in a book to arrange our two week itinerary which we mainly did because we are awful at dithering in the morning if we don't have a firm plan. The planning process is all new to us and having DS with us this time and being mindful of what will suit him also an added factor.

I guess it is all about establishing the priorities for your group.

We started out by looking at how long we want to spend in each park and how often we want to fit pool/waterpark days in which should be a bit of a rest in comparison to a full day in one of the parks. We don't have a single day where we aren't planning to be in a park but for some of the days we will go late in the afternoon/early evening after a slow day and just have the expectation of doing three fastpasses and having a meal, anything else will be a bonus.

After that we used the busy day guide. We are staying on site with DDP for 12 nights and although we have booked 21 day tickets we are unlikely to go back after we move on to the next hotel.

We are using EMH in the morning where possible for each our first visit to the parks.

After that when we are expecting to have a later start for any second visits we have tended to avoid EMHs.

The next thing we considered was whether eating in particular places is important to us and if so is it for any particular meal.

For us, we decided how we wanted to split our time across the parks is more important than where to eat. Being the first trip in 14 years and only remembering having one sit down meal when we were there last everywhere is new to us. This has meant that a few of the places that were on my list of possible ADRs to make haven't made the cut.

For some of the first visits where there aren't EMHs we have booked pre-park opening breakfast, for example garden Grill in Epcot at 8am on our first full day. After that we slotted in meals which had added benefits. ROL package at Tusker House, Fantasmic package at Mama Melrose, Tony's for parade viewing.

I think the important thing to keep going back to are what are the priorities for your group whether they are collective ones or for individual members of the group.

I also think it is important to remember that there is no correct thing to do or not do, otherwise everyone's plans would be the same.

Depending on whether you work better with bits of paper or a spreadsheet I would suggest either marking all your days/meal/must does on either post it notes or cells in a spreadsheet and shuffle them around until you get something that ticks as many boxes as possible.

Good Luck!

How old are your children and where are you staying? Which parks are you planning to visit? That might influence how you plan things. We tend to do early starts with a break in the middle of the day.

I would start by looking at how many days you have, and a list of which parks you are visiting, plus any other things you want to do like shopping.

EMH parks are least recommended if you are offsite, but if you are onsite it is better to use them, then possibly move to another park later

We are there are a similar time this year, but i’m still working on our plan!

Checkout my plan if you like, press on the little calendar icon on the left of my signature.

It's got my plans from last October and a provisional plan for this October. I realise it's October and not August but think that shouldn't matter too much?

I can see you've only just joined the dibb, so hello for that! If you want a countdown, press on mine and it'll take you to the page to set yours up.

Also, l struggled with the Busyday guide at first but basically if you are staying onsite the early entry days are useful to get in before offsite guests. Even though it says ‘not recommended’ it is recommended for onsite people.

Our family is going for the first time in August as well from the 19th Augustto the 2nd September. I looked at various crowd calendars which all said different things and worked out generally which park was best for which day. I have put both our rest days on Saturdays because that is when the parks are supposed to be at their busiest. Our itinarery is as follows:

Day 1: Arrive late from airport so maybe hit pools for evening.
Day 2: MK (ADR - Crystal Palace), DS for evening meal (Blaze Pizza)
Day 3: Epcot (ADR - Coral Reef)
Day 4: TL (ADR - Planet Hollywood in DS for evening)
Day 5: AK (ADR - Tusker House)
Day 6: Rest Day (ADR - Boatwrights, the resort restaurant)
Day 7: Visit our favourite park so far again.
Day 8: HS (ADR - 50s Prime Time)
Day 9: MK (ADR - Be Our Guest for QS lunch and Skipper canteen)
Day 10: BB then go to MK in evening to watch fireworks from Cinderella's Royal Table (thoughts on this?)
Day 11: AK (ADR - Rainforest Cafe)
Day 12: HS (ADR - Mama Melrose's)
Day 13: Rest Day (ADR - 1900 Park Fare)
Day 14: Epcot (ADR - Via Napoli)
Day 15: Go home

I’ve also planned where we will probably eat our other meals but this will be flexible for us. Staying in POR which is why we will be spending quite a few evenings in Disney springs as it is only a short boat ride away. We might also take advantage of some of the EMH parks (eg: AK) before transferring to a different park for the rest of the day. Our whole trip is being planned by a 13yo, so if she can do it then anyone can!

I've got my itinerary on the trip planner. We are mainly doing EMH then break by pool and back in evening if we are up for it. A few table service lunches for midday air con and rest. I used touring plans to look at crowd levels.
I started by picking how many days in each park- 2 per park for us +1 day TL- Evenings we may decide on the day. Then which day for which park using EMH and crowd calender's. Fitted restaurants around this. More evenings in the second week. TL in first week as a later start/rest and a morning off after MNSSHP as its a late night.

Hi Bella rae
You will have an amazing time whatever you do

To make it easier ( I am assuming you are staying on site) I would recommend its about when you can get out of bed. If you can get to the park for 45 mins before opening time every day then go for magic hours - you will be able to do a good set of rides and leave the park by 1 or 2pm (or book a sit down lunch at that time for the air con) then have a break and go back out later at night when its a tad cooler. You will be amazed at how many people are still coming into the parks at 2pm and feels good to be on the way out.
It also depends on how old any children in the family are - teens cope well with the break in our family.

We split MK into two halves and do it over 2 days Tomorrowland and fantasyland on one day and the rest on the second
then we throw in one night there to see the fireworks

Epcot we do over two days too - half the world each day plus the fast passes then work well
another n night for the fireworks

hollywood studios one night and one day (toy story land is good to see at night)

animal kingdom one day and one night ( Pandora good to see at night and day)

A waterpark for a full day (make sure you plan a park visit for that evening to make use of fast passes) and one for 4pm-6pm when they are quieter

then extra days wherever you feel your fave parks may be or wherever you don't get the fast passes you need on your planned days

shopping is done in the afternoon breaks to get the aircon from the malls

You'll have a blast - check out some of the trip reports they really do help

You can have a look at my previous trips, bit OCD and we did fall by the wayside on certain days due to tiredness or heat
