We had one in November and it was around 2 hours. I only expected it to be about an hour.

I would suggest doing copious amounts of research before attending any meeting- what is said at the meeting is, I have heard, may be accurate but they don't point out the downsides or issues, and they will be trying to sell you Riviera. Read up on Riviera resale restrictions, and how that may cost you a lot of money when you come to sell. Read up on 'lockoff premium' points increases (google it) and see what may happen with the contracts. Read up on 7 months availability and consider carefully 7 month availability across different seasons and room types. Read up on dues and understand the compound nature of dues and what they may mean in 10-20 years (quite scary).
Of course, ignore the above if you are just going for a nosey and free fastpasses, but make sure you are not swayed.
And before I am accused of trying to put people off- it is a great product, if you fit the class of people it is a great product for, even now, but the value is going out of it with the increased prices, and management can make decisions and change contracts that could damage your interest. Also never buy for perks.
Good luck.

I would say minimum of 90 mins but closer to 2 Hours, as you are "new" they will try to explain how it all works. Just be prepared to walk away & think about it, although there is no real pressure selling, there is still some & your guide will be eager to get you to put down a 10% deposit.
Just to add to what YT has said , do your homework on how many points you are going to need, I think the minimum buy in is now 75 points but the reality is that 75 points is never going to get you a 2 week stay!

Think we were about 2 hours that was 15 years ago so things might have changed

We went knowing we wanted to buy and with the guide that we had have to say no hard sell at all

Again things might have changed

Back in 2003 our appointment was scheduled for 1 hour 15 mins.
I kept him for 3 hours and wrote maybe 10 A4 pages worth of notes.

Then I thanked him for his time and said I would be in touch. I rang back 2 weeks later when home in the UK and having run the maths repeatedly.

No gift cards or FPs back then. The sales Centre was in the Boardwalk.

We went in October and it lasted about an hour, 2 if you included pick up and drop off. Our guide was trying hard to sell us just enough points for a studio in copper creek, not mentioning studios in copper creek can be hard to come by. He also tried to sell it by showing us the low point cost of boardwalk standard rooms without mentioning how hard they are to get at 7 months.
Really do your homework and try not to get too carried away in the moment.
He was trying to sell us 110 points, we ended up going away and buying 150 on the resale market after a lot of research.
Worth it for the gift card and fast passes though

The ice cream is pretty good too, make time to enjoy it at the end 😉

Just take a few things with a pinch of salt as above. We went in 2015 and during our meeting, (as well as the comments above) it was suggested that free dining would go soon and we could pool hop all over the property (no mention of restrictions).

There’s no hard sell, but they use advanced psychological sales techniques- much more effective than hard sell. Some also ‘suggest’ things in quite a clever non committal way as per Dendy above.
I’m not suggesting not to do the tour, but don’t be in a position where you don’t know exactly what the situation is without doing the tour.
A prime example, for years they told everyone overall points could never increase. This even made it into promotional videos they handed out, which can now be accessed on YouTube. Guess what happened?
Given the masses of info on the internet from real world owners in particular the ‘other board’s ‘ DVC section is particularly good as it has many more posts due to it being American, with owners who tell it as it is, not blinded by ‘pixie dust’. DVC Info is good for all the detail, and Disney Tourist Blog as an introduction. There is no reason to do a tour at all before buying, many people have never been on one and never spoken to a ‘guide’ ( commissioned salesperson is the correct monicker). Some are excellent, some will ‘suggest’ things to get a sale.
Dendycat’s advice is very good.

Our guide last year, no GC , was very very keen to point to that "he" expected points for new resorts to push $250, also went on & on about "value per point" but this is based on owning your resort for 50 years & historical evidence is that more than a few owners don't keep their contracts that long- of course we haven't arrived at 2042 to find out how many have stayed the course!
We didn't get the full sell as we are already owners but I still thought he was a bit pushy. That all being said, even knowing what we know, we still nearly signed on for a top up contract ! The feeling of "Disney bubble euphoria" can't be underestimated!
