Buying petrol

Hi Everyone, Has anyone managed to get around the issue of NOT being able to pay for petrol at the pump because we don't have zip code?
Not a big deal but would be nice to be able to pay for fuel at the pump rather than go inside,

Ted

You might be able to use a zip code containing the numbers of your postcode. I've used a similar cheat to get Hulu over here. Where my postcode is xx3 7xx I've used the zip code 37021 which is somewhere in Tennesee

I've read that it works by using just the numbers that are in your postcode and as all American zip codes have 5 numbers you use zero's at the end.

e.g. if your post code was...

L25 6ZZ - you would put in 25600

I should say that I haven't been brave enough to try it.

Chris says either try the zip code of where you're staying, or use 00000 instead.

We all preach to be careful with your CC, but then we try to fool a machine that reads your card...how careful is that with your card?

I would rather go inside and pay cash rather than chance my cc in the machine or inside. Gas stations are not the most secure areas to use a card.
My opinion of course , each to their own

much agreed

and for a kind reminder, the Florida authorities regularly warn that credit card skimming is widespread at gas station pumps, and it keeps on rising

credit card skimmers are now said to be "undetectable"

sure, you could get your CC skimmed at the pump down the road in the UK, but Orlando and FL in general seem to bear a much higher risk, due to its "tourist" nature.

some reading.
clickorlando/getting...w-undetectable

as far as I'm concerned, I 've always paid inside. (and it usually takes less time than dealing with the machine ... and it's air conditionned :p )

I attempted to use the pump and entered the zip code of where we were staying and it didn't work..

I only tried this as we rented films from the redbox machines you find at Wal-Mart etc and managed to use the hotels zip code with no issues.

I send the wife in to the garage with the card and she doesn't let it out of her sight.
