Can you give apoquel and piriton together?
My dog is so itchy, she was on steroids and now apoquel once day. She is back to a red itchy tummy and lady bits, I wondered if I can give her Piriton and Apoquel together, she’s going to the vets on Tuesday. She’s driving herself and me mad, bathed her in special itchy dog soap but it hasn’t helped! Any ideas I googled it but can’t find if I’m allowed to give both.

I wouldn't do it unless your have medical advice. Is it the pollen that is affecting her, my lab has been very sneezy the past few days. She used to suffer badly like yours but I think like humans has grown out of it a bit. She can't can't take steroids and was on Apoquel for a while but that didn't work as well as hoped. I actually found Yumega Itchy dog did help.
Hope she feels better soon. |

We had a Lab with multiple problems the vets advice to get piriton as everything they tried did not work but he had a lot of other health problems and he was biting his paws and tail so bad his tail needed stitches. It helped him as I remembering saying to vet if we could not find something to work its cruel to let him carry on, it helped but we had to wash his paws and tail every day as well but can not remember what it was. He was on steroids for hips and elbow problems and stomach problems which we know when we adopted him from the rescue centre but his skin allergies we had no idea. With piriton we managed to keep his skin allergies in check at least he never chewed his tail or paws raw again it did take a year to get him in good health but he was worth every day he lived with us for over 7 years he was not young when we adopted him.

Don't know if you can give together (your dog insurance should be able to tell you if you cant get hold of the vet) but the only antihistamine you should give a dog is Piriton and whether its a half or whole one depends on the weight of the dog. My sisters BT is so red and itchy with the dam grass seed at the moment & he is on Piriton. Hope you dog feels better soon.

How long has your dog been on apoquel?
Our lab suffered with terrible itchiness, ear infection and nasty spots to the point of waking us all up at night scratching herself and shaking her head, and had several rounds of antibiotics for infected spots and ear infections before we convinced the vet to prescribe her apoquel. Within 48 hours of taking it, her itchiness was almost gone, and within about 10 days, all her old spots and sores had pretty much cleared up. She's been on it about 2-3 months now, and we've just lowered her dose to 1/2 a pill a day, to see if her skin tolerates that. Apoquel really was a wonder drug for our pooch!

My westie has been on Apoquel for six weeks, she started on two and seemed fine but now on one the itching seems to have come back.

Sandra, I am very disappointed with you. No one but your vet can answer this question, so just give them a call and they will answer the question free of charge. You go to the same vet as me, and he is a very nice man and very helpful.

Bet there’s a vet on here somewhere, I think we have (or have had) most of the professions...from airline pilots to undertakers...
