Money cards
Hi, wanting to take a money card (not credit card) to Florida, which is the best card to take, would like one that I can use an app to see how much there is left on it. What are your recommendations?

We have used FairFx for a few years and are taking it again this year. We have also got Revolut cards for later this year, which so far we have found to be ok in terms of top up and apps. Some Dibbers have experienced issues with them including not replying in good time to their in app problem reporting section and I had a several hour wait when I did a 'dummy' enquiry. Many have had no issues with them.

We have a Caxton fx card great app to top up when you need, fee free withdrawals while abroad (charges apply in U.K.) and no withdrawal limits like some cards. I think the revolt charges a % on anything over $300 per month

I don't use money cards: they are not covered by the FSCS should there be any trouble with the issuing company, and even where the issuing company is itself covered by the FSCS any refund of money will be a long-time coming.
Many people say "I can't see these companies going bust" but try explaining that to my mother-in-law who had an Icesave account... Take a Halifax Clarity card or something similar where someone else's money is at risk ;-) |

I use the Monzo card ... I like it because every purchase/cash withdrawal shows up straight away on the app and you can load money on to it as and when its needed. There are no fees with the Monzo card.

Is the Monzo card a travel card or a bank card which exchanges to that currency each time you make a transaction?

We found the Revolut card really good last year, it also updated instantly with notifications for each transaction.

Thanks for all the replies, are the Thomson or Thomas Cook pre-paid cards any good?

I've been using the FairFX cards for years, never had a problem with them, all restaurants & stores take them, just like you would your debit card, withdrawals from cash Machine charge $2 for transactions but I have only withdrawn once from machine but used everywhere else, easy to top up & to see what you have on your card simply by logging into your account, & you can also purchase a second family & friends card which we have done so we can both use the same account, also a good idea just incase you loose one as an emergency x
