Thanks for the link dismamx2. Do you think it would be better to wait until closer the time in case the flights get moved?

My own experience of United flights indirect in & out of Shannon is that the times don't change
Personally I'd change the Orlando/Newark to earlier & then relax an enjoy the holiday |

As Alanm said Newark to Shannon didn't change. Usually the internal US flights often shift, could be by minutes but could be an hour. If that part of your flight gets moved and the connecting time changes to less than an hour you can get them to change you to an earlier flight for free. This doesn't usually happen until a couple of months before you fly.
It would probably cost you a bit to change to an earlier flight now, I am surprised you were advised such a short layover. I'm sure it will be fine but I am someone who would lose sleep thinking about it for months. It happened us last year with AA, they changed an internal flight which left us with only 70 minutes to connect at Charlotte. I asked them to change me to an earlier internal flight, they were hesitant telling me it was a 'legal connection' but they did anyway. |

I wouldn't worry about the outgoing times. Immigration is a non-issue flying from Dublin so you can literally just walk from gate-gate (and bus)
I would consider changing my return flights. I deliberately selected flights on the return with a larger lay over so we didn't have to worry as much about making a connection. We get a few hours in Chicago to grab something to eat before out next flight which is a bonus. These are my times next month. There have been numerous time changes since I booked (original booking in brackets). Depart Dublin 9 am Arrive Newark 11:10 am (11:25am) Depart Newark 13:00 pm (12:45pm) Arrive Orlando 3:46 pm (3:32pm) Depart Orlando 12:01 pm (12:55pm) Arrive O'Hare 2:00 pm (2:49pm) Depart O'Hare 5:50 pm (6:10pm) Arrive Dublin 7:30 am (7:50am)

A few years ago I would have been in a major panic about this, but I honestly feel okay! Am I going mad ?

We booked united to Dublin via Newark and had an hour connection which increased to 1h 15 during the year. I knew it was tight but decided to pack change of clothes etc in hand luggage and if we missed it well try not to stress too much!
We flew back on Sunday and flight took off 25 minutes later than the due time of 15.15 due to thunder but flight time was incredibly short, just over 2 hours and we were in newark airport at the gate just after 6pm. Had a very quick snack to eat and were queuing up to board by about 6.45. Looked like we were going to leave on time at 7.30 but actually took off nearer 8pm due to trouble with tv screens. Flight into Dublin very short again though, said 5h 40 mins but we had to wait about 15mins as there was no gate for us. I have noticed in the past from Newark and washington that united seemed to hold the flight for a bit if they had late incoming connecting flight. Have seen stressed people running on at the last minute before! Anyway i decided to go for it and take the chance rather than end up in Newark for hours Edited at 12:22 AM. |

Perfect It's all do-able and if you are not worried about it just go with it. They have to get you home so it's not as if you'd be stranded. I'm just an uber planner/stresser and this would worry me. I would go though all sorts of scenarios in my head; kids being put on different flights, would I be super exhausted to make the 2+ hour drive home from the airport, not back in time for work, gone over my time in the car park etc lol
Happy planning for your trip |
