Alamo car hire drop off at MCO question
I am out here right now with my ds 2.7 and I picked up a hire car a week ago from the Disney Car Care Center. I have to drop it back to the airport before our return flight next Monday but I am a bit worried about how I am going to get my luggage from the hire car to check in by myself as it's too much to carry (I have one big case, the pushchair in a bag and the car seat in a bag - plus carry on).
My questions are: is the Alamo drop off at the terminal or will I need to take a shuttle bus from the car hire place to the terminal. And if so, are there baggage trolleys at the car hire place (to get my luggage from the car to the shuttle bus). And again baggage trolleys close at hand where I will get off the shuttle bus? Thanks.

You drop off in the parking garage, just across the road from the terminal, although you have to use the lifts/escalators to get to the floor you need. It's a very short walk, but it would be awkward if you have to manage a load of luggage yourself.
There are baggage trolleys at the far end of the Alamo drop off zone that cost $5. They're not immediately obvious, probably because there are bellboys cruising the car park offering to take your luggage across to the terminal (legit service, if you want to use it). |

Drop off is in the terminal car park which is just across the road from check in. We had loads and loads of luggage so got a luggage porter to help with the bags, we gave him $10 as they only work on tips. He even waited with us till we got to the desk shoe could lift them on the scales. By the way we were traveling with a 6 month and 2 year old child plus 4 bags, double pushchair, two car seats and 4 hand luggage.

Brilliant thank you! I am happy to pay for a luggage porter as there is no way I can cope with the bags and look after my son (who does not seem to understand the phrase "stay with me"!).

Don't worry, the porters will be all over you like a rash as soon as you get out of the car.

Sometimes they're not, we had to go and search for one a couple of trips back. They're generally a pretty friendly bunch, I usually leave it to them and they will take everything out of the car and load on to their trolley.
Let the porters sort your luggage out for you - from your car to their trolley - they're good at loading all the stuff on so that everything fits nicely. I normally tip $1 per item, even for carry on and a couple of $s extra as I feel sorry for them lugging our main cases plus the extra that we pay for, as they're always full to capacity. So, if I were you, once you've sorted out your hire car, if they haven't already spotted you, call over a porter, keep your handbag, but just stand back and let him sort the luggage out. He'll ask you which airline you're flying with, then just follow him to the terminal. It's $s well spent - oh and keep back some dollars for this. Hope you're having a wonderful time. Hi
What works well for us is to drive to the kerbside of the departures terminal as if you are just dropping your family off - remove your luggage and have your family stay with it; then drive away and work your way back round to the car rental drop off. Once you have the car dropped off walk back to where you left your family and luggage and continue with check-in etc Bit cheapskate but hate waiting for porters in the rental garage and trying to watch young children, lugagge while seeing to it that everything has been taken from the car and there are no extra charges on rental etc |

Who are you flying with. If Virgin you could always do Downtown Disney Check in early in the morning. We did this as we did not have to get to the airport until about 5pm and didn't want the cases in the car during the day. It was much easier when we dropped the car off only our hand luggage to manage.

I don't have anyone to leave the luggage with as it's just me and ds (aged 2.5 so don't think he'd be much use! )

Unfortunately I can't do this as Virgin told me I need to check in all the bags together but I need to keep the car seat until I return the hire car (and they won't let me check this in later at the airport).
