Chef de France
Chefs de France Food Report
Tuesday 6th December 2005 Diners:- Bob and Dawn Meal:- Lunch The Chefs de France is situated in the World Showcase section of Epcot and is very popular with diners. We have eaten there on many occasions and have always enjoyed the meal and venue but were slightly disappointed on this occasion. We arrived at check-in at approximately 11.55am without an advanced dining reservation (ADR) and gave our name to the lady who stated that our name would be called within a few minutes. The staff started seating diners at 12.00pm and we were called soon after and were allocated a seat in the centre of the first room, which felt a bit cramped because the tables were so close together. The table to the bottom of the picture is the table next to ours. We have on other occasions sat at a window seat and these tend to have a bit more space between them. Our server was Maximillien and he was on a student program and was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. We ordered our drinks, with Dawn and I both having coffee as it was quite cold outside and we both needed to defrost. A family was seated at the table beside us and I was nearly knocking elbows with the father because the tables were so close. He then started loudly with the mobile phone and yammered away for quite a while whilst his daughters sat patiently colouring, stopping occasionally to argue over a crayon MENU Set Menu $14.95 Soupe a l' oignon gratinee - Onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese Croque monsieur et sa salade verte - toasted ham and cheese sandwich with a green salad Creme brulee a l'ancienne - baked vanilla cream with caramelized brown sugar Appetizers Cassolette d'escargots de Bourgogne au beurre persille - casserole of Burgundian snails baked in parsley and garlic butter $7.95 Tarte a la Flamme Alsacienne - Alsace specialty - flat bread baked with creme fraiche, onion and bacon $6.95 Tarte à la tomate et au fromage de chèvre - Tomato and goat cheese tarte $7.25 Tartare de Saumon légèrement fumé, sauce moutarde - Tartare of raw salmon lightly smoked, dill and honey mustard sauce $8.50 L'originale vichyssoise - soup of leeks and potatoes $4.25 Bisque de Homard - lobster bisque $4.95 Soupe a l'oignon gratinee - the classic onion soup topped with Gruyere cheese $4.95 Salade maison - selected greens, house dressing $4.25 Pâté de campagne en croute avec sa salade - homemade country terrine in its crust served with field greens $6.75 Assiette de fromages de France - imported cheese plate $7.50 La Planche Campagnarde - rustic assortment of French imported cheeses, pates, and sliced meats - serves 2-4, $23.95 Salade, Sandwiches, Crepe et Quiche Salade de Chevre Chaud - Baked goat cheese on a walnut and raisin bread served with arugula salad and confit peppers $9.95 (Red, Cabernet Sauvignon Chateau Ricaud - Glass $9.25) Crêpe Basquaise - large crepe filled with smoked chicken strips, peppers and onions, grilled and served with a mixed salad $10.75 (White, St Veran, Joseph Drouhin Glass $10.25) Pain Bagnat - layers of tuna, cucumber, tomato, pepper, served with homemade potato chips $10.95 (White, Chardonnay, Chefs de France, Glass $6.50) Croque monsieur et sa salade verte - toasted ham and cheese sandwich with a green salad $10.25 (Red, Merlot, Chefs de France, Glass $5.95) Quiche Lorraine - ham and cheese quiche $9.95 (Red, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chefs de France, Glass $5.95) Vegetarian Entrees Lasagnes de lmes du soleil ࠬ'huile d'olive au thym - zucchini, eggplant, and tomato baked into thin layers of pasta $13.75 (Red, Cotes du Rhone, J. Bob:- Grilled bavette steak cooked medium-rare and a glass of Red Chateau de Parenchere from Bordeaux Dessert Dawn:- Happiest Celebration Bob:- None. Now I must say there was nothing wrong at all with the Onion soup or Dawns dessert and they were as good as expected but we were a little surprised with the steaks. Because bavette steaks are so chewy and fibrous they are cut and cooked thinly and have always been done that way when we have ate there before but as can be see in the picture the steaks are thick cut making them making them very difficult to cut and very chewy, this did not take away the taste though and they were very juicy and flavourful. Rating:- 7/10 Good service, peaceful surrounding although cramped but a slightly disappointing meal. Bill:- $53.08 including DDE discount but not including tip Bob
