Scammers targeting students

For anyone with kids at uni, our son was targeted today by scammers phoning him reckoning to be from HMRC saying he’d evaded student tax. Frightened the living daylights out of him, said if he didn’t pay over £1000 today there would be a warrant for his arrest. They gave him a no to ring that when he googled it was for the justice courts.
Luckily he sent me a messenger message while on the phone so we told him to hang up and not give any details, which he did, but even so he is really shaken up.
We’ve since had a good chat with him and he knows HMRC would never phone like that. Poor kid is at uni in Liverpool, so bad enough that he’s spent his first 5 weeks and probably the rest of this term working in his room and can’t even come home for the weekend, without some evil toe rag preying on them when their mental health is likely suffering.
Please warn your kids xx

Amazon Prime telephone scam also doing the rounds. Appears plausible to them as a lot of students sign up at the discounted student rate

These people make me so angry, easier to con people than earn a living decently. 🤬 My son had a similar phone call about 18 months ago. They nearly fooled him too.
