Lithuania, anyone been?

Has anyone been? What’s it like, was there lots of places to shop and eat?
Any advice on flights from Scotland I can’t seem to find anything without having to travel to London, is that usual or just because we were thinking about February

I've been about 10 years ago. It was as part of work looking at sites of the holocaust (so not a typical tourist trip) we went to Vilnius and Kaunas. TO be honest it wasn't somewhere I'll be in a rush to return to (I'd much rather explore more of Poland which I visited on the same trip). It just didn't have a good vibe to me but that might be partly what I was there for as there seemed to be hostility that we were studying the Holocaust rather than atrocities done to the the Lithuanians by the USSR (fair enough but not an attitude I witnessed in other parts of Eastern Europe).

We went last October and loved it. Had brilliant weather which helped but thought Vilnius was a lovely city, vibrant with a big old town area. Lots of good restaurants and bars and the people were lovely. Easily kept us busy for a long weekend. Beer was cheap too .

Interesting , but understandable.
My grandparents and all their siblings fled Lithuania in 1900 to avoid what was what was almost certain death.
I can understand that resentment you experienced as it’s pretty much ignored by history.

As I tried to say in my original post I could understand the resentment, (the people who confronted us on the street were talking about post WW2 occupation) but it left me feeling uncomfortable and added to a feeling that many were not open to confronting the legacy of collaboration by some Lithuanian communities in the Holocaust during Nazi occupation, almost as though what was done to them excused what they did.

Sorry OP not helpful to you, and not something that the majority of tourists would encounter.

I went a couple of years ago far a stag doo. Ok place, really cheap to drink and eat. Lots to see. But if I’m honest we didn’t really leave the bars!
